Light and L are
doing everything they can to find out
who Kira is but the clues seem to lead them to
nowhere. L is still suspicious of Light but when a
second Kira shows up, things start to get complicated.
Light decides to find the new Kira and finds out that
it's a popstar called Misa. They quickly become good
friends and decide to fight crime together. But how
will they be able to kill L without knowing his true
identity? In a final showdown, Light has to both be
the hunter, and the hunted.

It's no secret that I loved the first Death Note
movie and that I couldn't wait for this to finally
come out on DVD. Did it live up to my expectations?
It sure as hell did! Death Note: The Last Name is
just as clever, if not even more clever than its
predecessor. It picks up where the first movie left
off with pop-singer Misa receiving a death note, but
it's not like I had expected. See, Light still has
his death note and Misa has received a second one.
They decide to team up and fight crime together and
love starts to blossom between the two of them. But
L is just one step behind and it seems as if he's
about to catch up with them.
Death Note: The Last Name doesn't go where you expect
it to go at any time, which is perhaps the reason why
it turned out to be so great. There's a scene in the
beginning that is quite reminiscent of the panic
scene in "The Host" in the way that you can really
feel the panic rushing through the hysterical crowd.
There's action, there's chaos and there's everything
that you could want from a movie of this kind. What
kind of movie it is? I'm not sure to be honest with
you. Like with all movies based on mangas, it's a
genre of its own. It's not really horror but it's
got all the right elements in it for a horror fan to
be able to enjoy it.
I've always been a fan of movies that divide a movie
into two parts (like Kill Bill) and Death Note really
nails it into every minor detail. It's got the quirks
and twists that the audience crave and it delivers
everything that it promises - and more. Fans of the
first movie will not be disappointed in this kickass
finale of one of the most terrific franchises in
Japanese movie history. There's really not a whole
lot more to say than that without giving anything
away so I'm just going to say; BUY THIS DVD NOW!

Nothing here.

Surprisingly enough, the movie opens with music from
Red Hot Chilipeppers (English music is rarely found
in Asian movies). The soundtrack was overall top-notch.

A great finale to one of the best franchises in
Japanese movie history - that's really the best way
to sum this movie up. If you liked the first movie
you will not be disappointed, and if you haven't
seen the first movie yet, you need to do that asap.
Part two can't be seen if you haven't seen part one.
