Twenty years ago, Sean McIntyre killed his entire
family in one night and then committed suicide. Now,
a bunch of college students have decided to host a
live online horror show for Halloween, and the
McIntyre house seems to be the ideal place for this
show. What they don't know is that the spirit of
Sean still lives inside the house and is determined
to kill any trespassers he may find...

Death On Demand is the latest addition to the
increasingly popular reality-tv horror sub genre.
Most of these slashers are pretty generic and feel
very much alike, and Death On Demand is no exception.
This has just about every slasher cliché that you
can find in it. We have annoying college frat boys
who express themselves by giving people the finger.
We have a porn star who's willing to do anyone and
anything in order to get ahead. We have a heroine
who's anxious about just about everything and we
have a bunch of losers watching the stream online
instead of going out to party.

There's not a whole lot of originality or creativity
to be found in Death On Demand... except for when it
comes to the weapons. See, the killer was a mountain
climber when he was alive and uses various climbing
gear to kill his victims, and these tools are not to
mess around with. We get buckets of blood and lots
of original death scenes, and that's really what sets
this movie apart from all the other reality-tv slasher
flicks that we've seen lately. I'm actually somewhat
ashamed to say that nudity and gore was the saviour
of this movie. Naturally that's not all that it has
going for it though, but let me come back to the movie's
strong and weak sides later, now let's get to the
core of the thin plot.

So six students are about to spend the night in a
haunted house (cliché number one), and if they manage
to solve the puzzle of the clues that have been
hidden for them in the house they'll receive a cash
price of $50,000 (cliché number two). What's the
catch? Well it's all going to be aired live online
for anyone to see... for a small fee. Well things
don't go quite as planned when the students are forced
to participate in a séance, bringing mass-murderer
Sean McIntyre back to life so that he can kill once
again... and he's not camera-shy.

What really surprised me about this indie slasher was
how good the movie looks. Not only is it well directed
but it also looks very competently made, unlike most
DTV horror flicks. The story is also somewhat
entertaining despite the fact that it's predictable
and unoriginal. But as I said before, the death
scenes is what makes all the difference. The killer
also looks quite creepy which was a big plus for me.

Unfortunately the acting isn't very good. In fact it's
quite horrible. But as slasher flicks go, I'm sure that
most of you will be able to overlook this fact.
The dialogues are also a bit too basic and it didn't
feel as if the script writers had worked very hard to
come up with the concept. I mean, we've seen the
exact same thing so many times before. Still, Death
On Demand is definitely a watchable slasher movie and
if you're into the whole reality-tv thing, this is
probably one of the better horror flicks in that
subgenre that you're going to find.

Ultimately I have to say that I'm somewhat pleased with
the result. It's not a great movie by any means but
it's goofy enough to work as a guilty pleasure. It's
got everything you could ask for from a slasher flick
except for a good story line so give this one a chance,
even if you will probably have forgotten all about it
as soon as the end credits start to roll.

Decapitations, guts, bashed in heads, gory bodies,
severed body parts and a whole lot more. I don't want
to ruin too much for you though.

Fairly competent score, above average for indie
slasher flicks so I was overall quite satisfied.

Mediocre slasher flick which will entertain to a
certain extent but not much more. It's forgettable
as hell but if you're looking for a mindless slasher
movie with lots of gore in it, this is the way to go.
It's surprisingly enjoyable so give it a chance.
