Five floors, five girls, five hours, five ghosts.
That pretty much explains the plot of this low
budget horror movie where five girls are put in
an old sanatorium which is supposedly haunted. The
girls soon realize that they are in this sanatorium
for a reason, but will anyone be able to get out
of it alive, or will they all die horrible deaths?

I've heard some great things about this new ghost
flick and my expectations were very high since
I just love horror flicks set in old asylums and
sanatoriums. Death Tunnel has great settings, a
great concept but unfortunately, it still manages
to fall flat due to some serious pacing problems,
a heavy lack of suspense and way too many stylish
special effects that tend to overshadow the fact
that the movie takes place in a real haunted
sanatorium. When you shoot a movie in a setting
like this, you should rely on the fact that the
setting will create the atmosphere by itself, like
it did in the awesome horror flick "Session 9"
but due to overuse of flashy effects, there is no
suspense at all in the entire movie.

While Death Tunnel did manage to make me twitch
in my seat a couple of times, I still wasn't too
impressed with the directing. It didn't really
feel like the director knew his horror. The
acting wasn't very impressive either and there
is very little character development throughout
the movie so we never really get to root for
anyone. A couple of weeks ago I saw a movie called
Boo! (which is also reviewed on Slasherpool) and
that movie really managed to creep me out. Death
Tunnel is basically Boo! without the boo if you
know what I mean. It's just a very tame horror
movie and while I can see 14 year old girls
screaming at this on a slumber party, I can't
see an experienced horror fan finding much
pleasure out of watching this.

This was a huge disappointment for me. I had really
expected so much more than a slow paced and
rather dull ghost flick filled with clichés.
Sony was actually going to release this theatrically
but I'm glad that they changed their minds and
decided to release this straight to video instead.
If you want to see a good asylum or sanatorium
ghost flick, check out Boo or Session 9 because
this one really wasn't too entertaining. It might
be funny for people who have been to this haunted
sanatorium though but for people like me who have
never even heard of the place before, this is
rather dull and not too impressive.

We get a piece of glass in ones neck, not too gory.

This should have added suspense but for some
reason it really failed. I don't know why as it
sounded pretty much as an average suspense score
but let's face it, this movie was never even
close to suspenseful.

Man am I disappointed or what? What should have
been a creepy and suspenseful ghost flick ended
up in being a dull snooze fest which could probably
only scare people who have seen less than 10
horror movies before. I'm glad that this didn't
get a theatrical release because this movie just
wasn't anything special.
