In a laboratory
in the middle of the sea, some scientists are working
on developing an antidote to Alzheimer. The antidote comes from sharks
who they genetically improved by adding human braincells... but there was
one consequence they didn't think about.

I rented this the other day as I thought the trailer looked cool, now I
know this isn't exactly new but I never got to see it before and everyone
who had seen it though it sucked. Well, I decided to see it with an open
mind anyway, even though I was quite certain that this was just another
Jaws spin-off... but look, I was wrong! This was without a doubt the best
shark horrormovie I have ever seen. This isn't just about big sharks
munching on some tourists at a beach, but this has a story to it.
Saffron Burrows
does an outstanding performance along with Samuel L.
Jackson and Thomas Jane. LL Cool J is actually pretty good aswell, but
I'm still against rapstars jumping into horrormovies, it didn't work
for Halloween 8, it didn't work for Leprechaun 5, it didn't work for
Anaconda and it certainly didn't work in Bones, which is the worst movie
of 2001. But LL Cool J also gave us a very good performance in the
7th of the Halloween movies, H20, so I have a lot of faith in him as an
actor. The directing is also very interesting, and the effects are
incredibly well done.
I know that people
say that this was a surprise boxoffice hit, but come
on, it made 73million dollars while the budget was 78million dollars,
that's not even a hit in my eyes. For a movie to be called a hit, at
least it should have its full budget back, well it did get its budget
back as it was a success worldwide, aswell as all the video/DVD sells
and rentals, but it could have done better at the cinemas in USA.
What surprised me about Deep Blue Sea was that the suspense was high
through almost the entire movie. I sat at the edge of my seat from like
20 minutes into the movie and it didn't stop until the end. Speaking
about endings, the ending was well thought out and all that but I feel
as if they could've done something more, but I was totally satisfied
with what I got. I did think that the entire movie was pretty predictable
though, and I knew who was going to die from the moment I saw them.

As most shark movies, there isn't a lot of gore, only some chewed off
arm and some bit of bodyparts. I was totally satisfied with what I got
though, and I didn't expect anything more.

For once, the soundtrack isn't exactly as in Jaws. Instead we get a
quite hip soundtrack with poptunes and hip-hop (probably performed by
LL Cool J?) and the soundtrack is also very intense and nerve wrecking,
another thing that surprised me about this movie.

The best shark horrormovie I have ever seen, an interesting plot,
great acting, cool directing and an intense soundtrack. You can't really
ask for more. Meanwhile the whole movie was pretty predictable, but
that didn't ruin it at all for me. Most of you have already seen this
movie but I still think that it deserves a second watch, so get your ass
down to blockbuster and rent this one more time, just for the thrill of it.
