Three girlfriends are vacating in Spain as Tami's
boyfriend recently cheated on her and when they're
invited to go on a yacht with a couple of boys
it seems like it will be the best weekend ever.
That is until the party goes out of hand and one
of the girls ends up getting killed. Panic spreads
among the teens and soon enough all mayhem breaks
loose on the yacht.

What can you expect from a British horror flick
that bombed disastrously in its home country?
Well not a lot apparently. I was pretty psyched
heading into Donkey Punch thinking that it would
be another stylish British thrill-ride but it
wasn't - at all. Now I'm not saying that it's a
bad movie because it's not, I'm just saying that
during the entire screening there wasn't a single
scream, laugh or jump from any of the audience
members and when the movie was over everyone left
with a blank face. It was a forgettable and
utterly mediocre horror flick that thought that
it was more clever than it actually was.

So let's begin with the problems shall we? Well
first of all I can't believe that this got a
theatrical release. It reeks DTV. No seriously,
the movie looks rather polished and all but the
directing and the level of the acting was very
DTV. The cinematography wasn't very good either
and the storyline was certainly a bit choppy. It's
actually quite familiar to other recent DTV horror
flicks such as Dead In The Water and Sea Of Fear
and the thing is, it didn't look like it had a
much higher budget either. The good news is that
the plot is decent enough to keep you entertained
no matter how ludicrous it may be.

The characters in the movie are all quite flat so
it's difficult to root for any of them and like
I said before the acting isn't impressive either
but the movie does have a solid pace through and
through and there were some mildly suspenseful
moments to be found in here. Gore? Not so much
but certainly a couple of rather chilling scenes.
I like the idea of how everything spins out of
control as well and how everyone turns on each
other but I mean, it takes place on a small boat
so what can you really expect? They change course,
they go back to shore but then change course
again and then the engine won't start and when
it does they change course again and so on so
yeah, the story could've been more solid.

In the end, Donkey Punch isn't a bad movie, it's
a decent time killer but for me this is a DTV flick
to enjoy in your living room and I think that it
will do much better business when it hits DVD.
I doubt that this will get a theatrical run in
the US but when it's released on DVD I'd recommend
taking it for a spin as it's got some good
moments and is overall a decent horror film, it
just didn't live up to my expectations.

Not so much, a guy gets chopped up with a motor,
someone gets a knife in the chest etc, surprisingly
dry for a British horror flick.

Some cool techno beats and an overall up-to-date
soundtrack which unfortunately fails to create
much atmosphere.

It's a DTV film that's somehow managed to crawl
into cinemas in a few countries, just like
Boogeyman 2. It's a decent time waster but not
something I would spend money to see in the cinema.
Sorry guys, but this one disappointed me.
