An ex-actress seeks help from a retired doctor
when she finds out that her husband is having an
affair with his secretary. The doctor is renowned
for her unique dumplings which will make you look
younger, make your skin look nicer and everything.
Well, everything has a price. The woman gets
addicted to the dumplings and it doesn't get
better when she realizes what the secret ingredient is.

This is the first of the "Three Extremes" movies
to be released on DVD so of course I'm one of the
first to check it out. The movie begins interesting
and you get the feeling that it might be a pretty
good movie. You never do get the feeling of horror
though but as a regular Asian horror movie viewer
I know that most Asian horror movies like to develop
the story before bringing in the horror. Well, I kept
waiting and waiting and it never happened. And on
top of that the ending leaves EVERYTHING to the
imagination which kind of bums one out.
The directing is brilliant and the director's managed
to create the feeling that the beautiful doctor always
has control over the situation and that she's one
step ahead of everyone. The acting is top-notch.
The movie only focuses on three main characters and
the character building is just excellent. It feels
as if we know how these people think and how they
will react to different things which is just a very
difficult feeling to create on screen.
All in all Dumplings works as a drama, it's by all
means a very good one and very entertaining one
but I just can't give it a high rating since it's
supposed to be a horror movie, and well, it isn't.
I do have quite high expectations for the other two
"Three Extremes" movies now though seeing as this
was still quite good. Don't get this one if you
want a horror movie but if you want a very well
executed and directed drama thriller, get it, it
might surprise even the drama-hater.

Some bloody foetuses, nothing much.

Violins and piano music creates a rather disturbing
and mystical atmosphere for this movie which works
really well, it's a very mysterious and dark movie.

Hey! I liked it! But on the covers and on the net
it was advertised as a horror movie and that's so
not right. It is however a very entertaining
drama thriller, if you overlook the last 10 minutes
which are confusing and leaves everything to ones
imagination. I did not like that.
