Daniella's father recently killed himself but when the
funeral is over, his corpse is stolen. Since the police
doesn't seem to worry too much about it, Daniella decides
to do a little investigation of her own. It doesn't take
long before Daniella starts realising that her father
mightn't have been a very good man. As the pieces start
coming together, Daniella gets dragged into a religious
cult and perhaps she's the next one to get killed.

This sounded a lot like a sequel to the creepy horrormovie
Los Sin Nombre and when I sat down to watch it I thought
that it was Jaume Balaguero who had directed it. Why?
I don't know. After a while I started realising that I
must've been wrong on that part since the directing is
nothing impressive at all and Jaume just loves building
up suspense and such which this movie lacked off completely.
Don't get me wrong, this was a very good movie but it
ended up being a horrorthriller that you felt like you
had watched before.
Almost the entire cast is Spanish but the movie is shot
in English. They actually did quite a good job with the
dialogue since I was convinced that some of the actors
were British because of the accent but it appears that
they were also Spanish. Great job. The acting itself
wasn't too impressive but Erica Prior, playing Daniella
does a pretty good job with getting us to root for her.
El Segundo Nombre is one of those movies that really
has a good story but due to lack of scares and thrills
we never get the horrormovie feeling that we long for.
It's simply like a good Spanish horrormovie, minus the
horror. I don't know if it deserves three stars but I
was always interested in the storyline and while the
plot was fairly predictable, the movie kept its pace
through the entire movie so I have to say that I did
like this movie despite its flaws.

A woman spraying blood from her neck is the only thing
gory in this movie. It looks pretty realistic though
and the scene is quite dramatic aswell.

The heavy and eerie piano music filling out this movies
score is pretty impressive yet simple. It manages to
create the feeling that it's original though deep inside
us we all know that we've heard this lots of times before.
There's also some nice guitar ballad that I really liked.
Needless to say I really liked the score for this movie,
simple yet very creative for the dramatic atmosphere.

Unoriginal, predictable and not very scary is what this movie
has against it. We've seen it in Jaume Balaguero's movies
only that he manages to do this concept a whole lot
better and with a whole lot of more creepy atmosphere
that I really missed here. If you feel like checking
out a predictable thriller with a couple of twists
this is probably the one for you.
