A rescue crew boards the spaceship Event Horizon.
The ship disappeared seven years ago and now they've
managed to find it. It was designed to be able to
move through space faster than light to other
dimensions and that it did. When the rescue crew
boards the ship it's empty and the entire previous
crew seems to be gone. When creepy events start
happening the crew soon realizes that they have to
get off the ship as soon as possible.

After hearing good things about this flick for years
I decided to finally sit down and watch it. That's
a choice that I didn't regret. Bringing the classic
haunted ship concept into space was a creative and
original idea which turned out to work really well.
The movie was released back in 1997 and flopped
gigantically at the box-office. It cost 60 million
dollars but only made about 30 million at the US
box-office. What beats me is the budget. The movie
doesn't look much better or seem to have cost much
more than Jason X did and that only cost 11 million
dollars so I guess the actors must've cost a whole lot.
Naturally, with the budget that the movie had, the
movie looks good and so the directing is also really
good. Though perhaps a bit simple and uncreative for
my taste, it doesn't look that special considering
the budget. The acting is also very good to say the
least but what else could you expect? The movie
succeeds to be both rather creepy and at the same
time really gory. The script is tight and the
storyline feels very original. I can really see why
people liked this that much. However, at the same
time I can tell you that my fellow reviewer Slicer-
Dicer here at slasherpool thought it was terrible.
Here are a couple of things that Slicer-Dicer thought
about the film:
Horror fans seem to love this supernatural sci-fi
horror mess. I don't understand why. It's not a
completely bad film, there's nothing wrong with the
actors, story, special effects... But it just doesn't
work. The plot and premise are just too goofy and
juvenile, and the director could have used a lighter
touch as the movie gets mean-spirited and heavy-
handed. When the characters board the empty ship in
the film, alarmingly cynical thoughts like "run for
your lives, the ship is alive!" starts running
through your head and instead of even trying to
surprise you with a twist or something, the film moves
directly the way you wished it wouldn't.
Still, the effects obviously cost some and the result
is well-done. The classy cast (with such trusty
veterans as Sam Niell and Larry Fishburne) knows what
they're doing and struggle hard and effortly with
the transparent script. But besides from that, this
is just another forgettable waste-of-time horror flick.
In the end I guess that this is a love it or hate
it flick. I loved it and Slicer-Dicer didn't
exactly love it so all I can say is that I really
think you should give it a shot if you haven't
seen it all ready.

This was gore filled fun! We get a guy whose veins
start to pop out of his skin. A body split in a
thousand pieces, a guy gets his body completely
cut open, another one gets his eyes removed and
believe me there is much more than that.

There was nothing special about the soundtrack,
I thought that the entire thing consisted mainly
of sound effects but for its intents and purposes
I guess it worked.

I loved this flick but my fellow reviewer Slicer-
Dicer really disliked it so I guess you'll have
to make your own mind up about this one. Give it
a shot if you still haven't seen it, maybe you'll
be as pleasantly surprised as me.
