A girl who's been blind since she was a child
has a cornea transplant so that she will be able
to see again. Everything seems fine until she
realizes that not only is she able to see regular
people, she's able to see dead people as well.
Now she has to find out how to get rid of these
horrible visions. Copied from our plot description
of our review of the original The Eye.

Evil Eyes (more commonly known as Naina) is
India's version of one of my all time favourite
horror movies, namely The Eye. Since I had read
a whole lot of positive reviews for this remake
I was anxious to see if they had really managed
to do the impossible - make a great movie even
better. Well, they hadn't at all. Not only is
this a very poor remake, but it also copies things
from all other big Asian horror flicks like Dark
Water and The Ring. This really made me question
the upcoming US remake as it seems as if this
story could only be told by the Pang brothers.
See, the story is pretty much the same and we do
have most of the original scares in it as well,
but the scares are anything but scary and there
is very little suspense throughout the movie.
Also, Naina, the girl who's had a cornea transplant
isn't as likeable as the girl from the original
movie. It's obvious to me that the people who have
given this movie positive reviews haven't seen
the original movie - perhaps they didn't even know
that it was a remake.
What makes this remake even worse is that they've
thrown in some very bad jokes into the mix, this
just destroys the little atmosphere that this movie
has going for it. I'm very disappointed to see how
they handled one of my all time favourites and
I really hope that Hideo Nakata manages to pull
it off better than these guys did and make a movie
which is more true to the original. For anyone
who liked this movie, check out the original and
I bet you that your opinions about this flick will
change drastically, for anyone who hasn't seen it,
don't, it's far from as good as the original
masterpiece which we all love.

We get to see a guy with an open stomach in an
autopsy room for no apparent reason. Why have
gore in it? It's a ghost flick for crying out loud.

The theme melody is almost identical to the one
used in the American remake of The Ring. It's
a good melody but we've heard it before.

Disappointing remake. It's amazing how a script
so good can make a movie this bad. The original
is a whole lot better and this remake did not
stay true to it at all. I will not recommend this
movie to anyone, you should see the original
movie instead as it is one of the best horror
movies ever made in my opinion.
