Darren
Hall barely manages to escape from a military
research facility where an experiment has just gone
terribly wrong. He refuses to let go of the experiment
however and brings a small bottle of serum with him.
Bad idea. It doesn't take long before the serum comes
into the wrong hands and all hell breaks loose in a
down-town apartment complex.

Finding actual zombie movies these days are quite
hard. Sure, we get the occasional "Dead Snow" but
for most of the time zombies are just infected
people acting like zombies. This is also the case
with the rather anonymous zombie-flick "Evilution".
A movie that doesn't add much to a crowded subgenre.
In fact, it doesn't add anything. The entire movie
(or 99% of it) is shot inside an apartment building
and the sets feel very cheap. There's not much of
a story to be found in here, and the characters just
aren't that exciting. It's not a bad movie though
but it is terribly mediocre.
A military scientist is the sole survivor of an
experiment gone wrong. He moves to a bad neighbourhood
in hopes of finishing his experiments but before
he's able to successfully do so, someone steals his
serum. All hell breaks loose in the apartment complex
and it's up to Darren, the scientist, to stop it
before the infection breaks out into the streets.
It's not really a refreshing story is it? It's got
okay production values with decent cinematography,
all right directing and an okay cast. It's a time
waster but not a whole lot more. It's so bland that
you will have forgotten all about it once the end
credits start to roll.
There's not really a lot to say about Evilution. The
script feels recycled - this could really have been
any kind of horror movie. The zombies could have been
replaced with ghosts, a serial killer, even rabbits,
there was nothing genuine about it. On a 1,2 million
dollar budget I guess you can't expect much more
though I just wish that they would've spent a little
more time on the script, especially considering that
this is from the writer of the awesome "Cemetery
Gates". At the end of the day, Evilution delivers
what it promises and lives up to its title but not
a whole lot more. It's not a fun and exciting, gore-
filled zombie movie. It's just a movie that's not
bad and not very good. Mediocre entertainment.

A lot of blood splatter but nothing too graphical.

I didn't find it to be very effective but it worked
well enough to set the mood.

Bland zombie movie with a basic story and very little
gore. It's not a bad movie but we've seen it so many
times before that it's difficult to part it from the
rest of the countless DTV zombie flicks that we've
seen as of lately. Only worth checking out if you're
a hardcore zombie fan.
