A bunch of teens prepare for the re-opening of Crystal
Lake summer camp, unaware that someone's been killing
teens there for several years. And one by one, the
teens are knocked off by a mysterious stranger...

A true horror classic, the Great Original Summer Camp
Slasher, this is actually not much worse or better
than the usual but deserves bonus points for being
the first in the perhaps not so fantastic genre.

The plot is pure by-the-numbers nonsense, same goes
for acting, script and direction. The cast of
characters are forgettable fodder which you won't
remember either name or face of (with exception for
a young Kevin Bacon!). We have the standard-setting
prankster, the blonde heroine, the couple who takes
off to have sex, etc.

The film's highlight is naturally the famous climax
where Betsy Palmer does her legendary Mrs. Voorhees
bit ("Kill her mommy, kill heeeeer..."). It's basically
a Psycho-rip off and not a very good one but it has
its moments and some unintentional laughs.

Otherwise, this is a pretty overall average movie.
Badly acted, directed, written and performed teen
slasher with some memorable gore effects by Tom
Savini and an amusing climax. If it weren't for the
fact that it's THE original Friday the 13th movie,
you would forget it in a sec, but then... there's the
fact...

Some (for that time era) shocking slit throats, an
axe in the forehead, a decapitation, arrow-shooting
and an infamous speared-through-the-neck from under
the bed.

Harry Manfredini's semi-classic score, surely inspired
by Bernard Herrmann's Psycho soundtrack.

Classic but forgettable teen-camp slasher. Bad acting,
lame plot but good gore and an amusing climax. Worth
a look for curiosity's sake.
