A psychiatrist brings a couple of his patients out to
a cabin in the forest so that they can cope with their
fears once and for all. The patients have to tell their
fears to a big wooden man called Morty (no he's not
boring, it really is a man made out of wood). What they
don't know is that Morty is alive and has decided that
these people should die in the worst way they could
ever imagine.

It wasn't
very common with slashers in the early 90's
so instead of making a 100% pure slasher, the team behind
"The Fear" decided to make a slasher with a man made out
of wood as the villain. The concept is pretty cool and
original with a killer basing his murders on his victims
fears. The movie however does not survive in the long run
as the story is poorly executed.
The killer, Morty, is pretty cool looking and probably
saves this from feeling like a Child's Play rip-off.
However, I didn't care much for the fact that some of
the murders were just random while the original concept
was to kill everyone through their fears. Some of the
murders weren't even loosely based on the fears of the
victim and I didn't really get why they did just a few
exceptions, what was the point?
The acting is pretty bad and you don't root for any of
the actors even though you're obviously supposed to. It
feels a bit too obvious who's going to die and who's
going to survive even from square one. The directing is
also pretty bad and you can tell from a miles distance
that this was a very low budget production. At least
the sequel had better production values.
This is over all an all right movie to watch if you're
absolutely bored to the bones but in my opinion the
movie is way too flawed, way too slow, way too uneven
and waaay too long (even though it's only 97 minutes).
Slashers longer than 90 minutes usually do tend to get
a bit slow however so for all of you who are planning
on directing your own slasher flick, make sure that
it doesn't run for more than 90 minutes or the result
might come out as mediocre as this.

I have the "uncut" DVD of this movie but what could
there possibly be to cut? There is no gore at all in it.

The theme melody is terrible and so is the atmospheric
music and fails to do what it's intended to.

Slow and uneven slasher flick about a wooden man who's
basing his murders on his victims worst fears. If you're
desperate and have nothing else to watch, it isn't
completely abysmal but it's not a good movie either.
