"Feels like an episode of Goosebumps"

It's Halloween night and two teenage girls have decided
to hold a séance. At first it's all fun and games but
when their dead classmate answers from the other side,
telling them that she was murdered, the two girls
decide to investigate the matter further.

So it's time for Rob Schmidt's episode of Fear Itself.
I have to tell you, when Wrong Turn came out I was so
excited to have a new director in town to shake things
up a bit but since then, Schmidt has really disappointed
me and I'm starting to wonder whether or not this guy
really is a master of horror. Speaking of Masters of
Horror, his MOH episode "Right To Die" certainly wasn't
anything memorable, "The Alphabet Killer" didn't do
much for me either and now his Fear Itself episode is
a bust. What's going on here? What went wrong? The
Spirit Box feels more like an episode of Goosebumps
than an episode of Fear Itself as it's so tame and so
teen-oriented that it feels misplaced.

Two teenage girls decide to hold a séance on Halloween
night, but to shake things up they decide to do a
spirit box. What is a spirit box? Well it's basically
a pizza box made into a ouija board with teen phrases
such as "L8R" on it. Anyway so they manage to contact
their dead classmate who spells out words with just a
few letters - just like any teenager would do (her
name is Emelie and she spells it MLE) etc. The two girls
are somewhat freaked out but decide to investigate
further into the case. Did the girl really commit
suicide or was she really murdered?

The Alphabet Killer came to mind several times while
watching this episode as the two stories are quite
similar - only The Spirit Box is far less mature. This
is not quality TV my friends. The script for this
couldn't have taken more than a few days to finish,
if that. You know exactly what's going to happen and
when it's going to happen and at times it's so ridiculous
that you can't help but to laugh. These episodes may
just be 45 minutes long in total but they sure as hell
seem a whole lot longer. If you ask me, they should
bring back Masters of Horror again instead. At least
that show had some potential.

No.

Meh.

Shocker! It's another lousy episode of Fear Itself.
I swear, if this show is every put on DVD, I can't
imagine anyone will actually pick it up. The Spirit
Box feels like an episode of Goosebumps and is so
generic and predictable that it's not even funny.
