"A bit too clichéd and unoriginal for my taste"

Stephen has just moved into an old house and it doesn't
take long before he starts seeing things. It seems as
if a beautiful woman, who looks very much like the girl
he's currently in love with, lived there once upon a
time together with her ill-tempered boyfriend. As time
goes by, the visions get more and more morbid and what's
even worse is that it seems like history is about to
repeat itself...

Wow, I'm surprised, a somewhat decent Fear Itself episode.
It's unfortunate that I have to drag the rating down
a notch due to the fact that it's a complete rip-off of
Pinoy horror movie "The Echo". Now this may seem like
a stretch, I mean, why would anyone rip-off a horror flick
from the Philippines? Well maybe because the remake had
just finished shooting when they made this episode.
Figures this wouldn't be very original seeing as how
it's from the director of the remake of The Fog (and
I can't say that I was a huge fan of Stigmata either).
Still, compared to the latest Fear Itself episodes,
Echoes isn't bad. It's certainly watchable.

The story revolves around Stephen, a young man who has
just bought an old house and starts to have terrifying
visions of a woman being murdered. What's even more
disturbing is that the woman in his visions bare a
striking resemblance to the girl that he's currently in
love with. Why is he having these visions? Could it be
that the past is echoing and that history is about to
repeat itself? Or can Stephen do something to stop it?
Echoes is not really a horror movie. If anything it's
a thriller but it's certainly not a horror flick. The
story is, like I said before, very unoriginal and you
can see the ending coming from a miles distance but it
does have some good qualities.

Unlike several episodes of Fear Itself, Echoes feels
more aimed at a more mature audience. It also felt as
if Rupert Wainwright was really excited about doing
this episode because his dedication shines through.
The acting is above average for this show and it could've
easily been stretched into a 90 min movie without being
a complete bore. As far as Fear Itself episodes go, this
isn't bad. As a stand-alone horror movie though, it's
a bit too clichéd and unoriginal for my taste - and
also it's not really horror.

Not much here.

I have nothing to say.

Echoes is good as a Fear Itself episode but it's still
not good. It's unoriginal, it's more of a thriller than
a horror flick and there's nothing memorable about it.
It's decent TV entertainment but we'll get to see
almost the exact same thing in cinemas soon when The
Echo comes out (or will it go DTV?).
