Late one night
when Dev is driving home, he finds a
woman screaming out for help in the river next to the
road. She has forgotten everything about her life,
even her name. Dev quickly grows fond of the woman and
since he feels sorry for her he decides to invite her
to stay with him until she can start to remember her
past. Unfortunately for him, her past isn't very
pleasant. It seems as if an evil spirit is wanting
to kill her and everyone around her. But why? What
could she possible have done in her past that's so
horrible that a vengeful spirit would want to kill her?

A two hour long Bollywood ghost story? You can just
imagine how sceptical I was heading into this flick.
First of all, I've never seen a truly great Bollywood
horror movie, and I rarely even bother with their
ghost stories as I find them outdated and anything
but suspenseful. Second of all, I'm not very fond of
horror flicks where the entire cast breaks out in a
musical number unless it's a horror comedy where it
works. Fear contains neither of those two elements.
In fact, Fear isn't so much of a ghost story as it is
a suspenseful mystery thriller and it doesn't involve
any musical numbers which was extremely appreciated.
In some miraculous way, they actually managed to turn
a two-hour long horror flick, which probably should
have sucked, into something great. Yeah, not just good,
Fear was great. I was glued to the screen and didn't
even notice that the movie went on for so long.
The story here is pretty complex as you can imagine and
it's difficult to describe it as it takes so many twists
and turns along the way - which of all feel natural and
not forced or rushed (like most horror twists these
days). What's even more absurd is that the twists and
turns are actually rather refreshing and you don't see
them coming until they finally hit you, and when you
think you've finally figured the movie out, something
happens that throws you completely off and you have to
start thinking again. Now THAT is a good horror thriller
if you ask me. Anyway, I'll try to describe the plot as
thoroughly as I can without spoiling anything.
Dev is driving home late one night when he finds a woman
screaming out for help in a lake (or a river, or some
kind of water, it's not important). He brings her to
the hospital where he finds out that she's suffering
from a bad case of amnesia and doesn't remember anything
about her life. Since he feels sorry for her and
starts getting feelings for her, he decides to invite
her to stay with him and his mother for a while. What
he doesn't know is that an evil spirit is coming after
her. Dev's mother decides to help the woman to figure
out who or what is after her - but this naturally has
consequences. That's all I can tell you without ruining
anything. It's not as much of a ghost story as it
probably sounds, the ghost really isn't the important
thing in here. What's important is the woman's
mysterious past. What really happened that night and
why is an evil spirit after her? Well you can try to
figure it out but you won't be able to.
Fear is by far the best Bollywood horror flick that I've
seen to date. It's extremely well-written, it's very
nice to look at since it looks better than many
Bollywood productions, and it's got an outstanding
cast. I enjoyed every second of this movie and it just
got better and better as the story progressed. This
was for me a very pleasant surprise indeed and if you're
looking for a suspenseful and unpredictable ghost
thriller, you should definitely give Fear a run for
its money. It really is a fresh breeze in the watered
out ghost genre. Thank you Bollywood!

Not much here.

Well I wasn't a big fan of the music but it did what
it was intended to do for most of the time.

A movie that should have been awful turned out to be
one of the most positive surprises of the year for me.
Fear is a groundbreaking Indian horror thriller which
is both suspenseful and unpredictable. This really
raises the bar for Bollywood horror flicks and I strongly
recommend that you check this one out.
