Paul is a troubled young script writer who has just
came up with a new idea for a movie - a dead clown that
kills people and then makes it look like suicide.
He asks his friend, David, to lock him inside his
apartment so that he won't be distracted by anything,
but it doesn't take long before paranoia starts taking
over and Paul is left to face his worst nightmares.

Killer clown movie? I wish! If there's one thing worse
than watching a really boring generic slasher flick,
it's watching someone write one. James van der Beek
finds himself in yet another lackluster horror flick
where absolutely nothing happens for one and a half
hour before it finally ends with an extremely dull
ending that doesn't make much sense at all. I'm thinking
that they were probably going for an artistic horror
drama, and while it is indeed that, it's not a very
good one. In fact, The Final Draft doesn't work on any
level, it not only bores the viewer but even makes the
viewer somewhat depressed due to its gloomy content.

The story revolves around Paul Twist, a troubled young
writer who has decided to lock himself in his apartment
for seventeen days so that he will be able to finish
his latest script where a clown from his childhood
starts killing people at random. To give himself some
inspiration, he decides to have people around him who
have somehow affected his life be the victims. While
writing his script, he starts having visions of the
victims and it seems as if he's slowly going insane.
So you're probably asking yourself "but what about the
killer clown on the cover?". The answer; the clown has
more or less nothing to do with anything, it shows up
here and there, not to give us a scare, but mainly to
show us that he's there. He doesn't really do anything
but I assure you, he is there for some reason.

You might think that I'd give this movie some credit
for originality, but seriously, how many times haven't
we've seen a troubled writer going insane? It's been
done to death! And at least most other horror flicks
with this concept have been somewhat scary, but Final
Draft doesn't even try to be scary. It's like it wasn't
originally intended to be a horror flick. What I am
going to give it some credit for however, is how they
managed to make the movie so gloomy and dark that it
really affected my mood. Coming out of this I was so
down that I had to watch an hour of old Friends episodes
just to cheer myself up again. Whether that's a good or
a bad thing, I'm not sure, but if you're suicidal you
should probably avoid this movie.

Ultimately, I quite hated The Final Draft. James van
der Beek deserves better roles than this as he's the
only good thing about the movie. His performance is
great and he does everything he can to make his
character come alive. Unfortunately, it's almost
impossible to root for his character anyway since few
of us have locked ourselves in our apartments. It just
seemed strange to me. Anyway, if you know someone who's
annoyingly happy all the time, give this to them and
they'll probably end up just as miserable as the rest
of us. A gloomy and depressing drama thriller, not
recommended for... well... anyone really.

A slit throat.

Decent piano music, didn't really matter.

This is not a killer clown slasher flick, it's a drama
thriller about a troubled writer who starts having
strange (not ghostly) visions of people who have
somehow affected his life. Dark and gloomy and won't
leave you in a good mood. If you're considering
suicide, this probably isn't the best movie to watch.
