The sorority girls at Omega Capa Omega are having
a reunion at
Hawaii. When one of the girls turn up dead in a pool, nervosity and
paranoia starts spreading among the girls. Detective Shane, who has
been sent to Hawaii from Los Angeles after screwing up a mission
takes on the case with the help from detective Julie. As the bodycount
rises rapidly, the detectives have to try harder and harder to crack
this case open.
Final
Exam is one of those hyped slashermovies that everyone seems
to be dying to see. Why? Is it because it stars Debbie Rochon or...?
I don't really understand, I went in with low expectations and
despite that, it was even worse than I had imagined. Don't get me
wrong, it looks really high budget and all, but here are a few
reasons why we would never see this on the big screen:
*The soundtrack is cheesy and there are no lyrics in the songs.
*There are enough nudity and sex scenes in this movie to give it an X-rating.
*The story isn't held together at all, instead, it can't seem to find its
genre.
Director Fred Olen Ray shows us the miracles he can do with a
limited budget. The directing is almost completely flawless and
the car chasing scenes are amazingly well done. 99% of the movie
takes place in Hawaii and the scenery is simply beautiful. It's a
shame that they decided to make this a slasher/soft core porn movie
because an X-rated non slasher version of this would be one hell
of a movie.
Please don't stone me for saying this but I really don't
think that Debbie Rochon is a good actress, or good-looking for
that matter. The rest of the acting is pretty darn good though.
What annoyed me was when one of the girls sat in front of the
computer and said out loud what was written on the site she was
on, despite the fact that she was alone in the room. I mean, okay,
many people mumble silently while they read, but no one sits and
talks out loud while they read to themselves... except for perhaps
schizophrenic people I guess.
This is a poor excuse for a slasher, okay, every slasher needs
its fair amount of nudity but this crossed the line and went
onto soft core porn which shouldn't be played before midnight on
cable. Seriously people, this is jack off material. Oh and there's
only female nudity, no male nudity, sorry gals. The "surprises"
in the ending felt pathetic and predictable, when you see it I
know that you will agree with me on this. I didn't care for this
movie at all since I thought it was dumb and had a poor story
but since Fred Olen Ray is such an excellent director, I just
have to give Final Exam one star.

Some
blood coughing and a bloody handprint but that's it, all of
the killings are made with either guns or with a rope.

Excellent
soundtrack, really sets the atmosphere and gets you into
the mood... at least this would've been the case for a porno flick.
The soundtrack doesn't work at all for a slasher, in the car chase
scenes there's some cool action music and in the nude scenes there's
some cheesy beat playing but where's the bongo drums or creepy
strings in the few horror scenes that we get?

This
movie was a waste of time in my opinion and it could really
use a few touches and cuts (not gory cuts but sex scene cuts).
If you want an excuse to watch porno, you should definitely check
this one out. If you are suffering of insomnia, check this one out.
If you have watched all the horrormovies in the world except for
this, Bloodthirst and Blair Witch Project, check this one out.
But if you want to be scared, rather ask someone to say boo than
to throw your money away on this movie.
