A bunch of rich kids get invited to a murder mystery weekend
where the idea is to scare one of the girls and her boyfriend.
Well, they succeed but soon everyone will be scared for their
lives as a real killer shows up and starts killing the rich
kids. Will anyone survive or will no one win this murder
mystery weekend?

Cheesy cult director David DeCoteau decided to take a stab
at the slasher genre after all the recent slasher movie hits
back in the early 2000's. Hopefully, it was, just as the
title suggests, his final stab at the genre. Final Stab tries
to be a mix between Scream and April Fool's Day but fails
at being a good copy of either. The story is completely
ludicrous and even if the killers mask is relatively creepy,
we never find him even close to scary. You would think that
any horror fan could make a decent slasher flick with the
budget that DeCoteau had (it's even shot in 2.35:1 cinemascope
for crying out loud), how could this not be entertaining?
Well here's a list of possible reasons.

First of all, it feels as if the entire movie is shot on a
ship since the camera waves constantly from one angle to
another and you should be warned, people who easily get
sea sick will probably find this movie very uncomfortable
to see. This movie has many other constant problems as
well. There is a "scary" suspense score playing during
almost the entire flick with very few breaks, even in the
scenes that aren't supposed to be scary. What bugged me
the most however has got to be the thunderstorm. I mean,
one second it's lovely weather and the sun is shining but
as soon as it gets dark there is thunder and lightning
and not a small thunderstorm either, the lightning flashes
about three times every 5 seconds. However, there is no
rain in sight so the thunderstorm feels very fake.

David DeCoteau might have had the budget, the camera and
the cast (yes, the acting is pretty all right) but it was
obvious that this guy never directed a slasher before in
his entire life. The killer has way too much on-screen
time, the story isn't very interesting and the movie is
only about 70 minutes long without the opening credits.
So what does all this lead us to? Well, Final Stab might
not be the worst slasher flick I've seen and it can't
be abysmal since I've managed to sit through it three
times now. It's not a good flick however but it's not
a complete waste of time either.

A pathetic slit throat.

Annoyed the hell out of me! It's cheap and cheesy and it
never stops playing! Give it a rest, the suspense score
isn't suspenseful at all!

Pretty bad slasher flick with many flaws and annoying
factors. It's always nice to see a slasher flick in
cinemascope though but when the camera moves around so
much that you feel sea sick, it fails to impress you.
Nothing that you have to check out, only for fans of
teen slasher flicks.
