Melanie and her
family moves to a small town on the
country side since Melanie just got out of rehab after
experimenting with some very dangerous drugs. She
quickly feels like an outsider even though her sister
is extremely popular among the other teens. To make
things worse, Melanie believes that she's seeing ghosts
of kids that died in the small town several years ago.
What are they trying to tell her? Well, whatever it is,
she better figure it out quickly as a killer is at
large, killing the students at the high school one by one.

Oh yay, it's a slasher flick! That's right people, don't
trust the cover for this movie. Fingerprints is a slasher
with some supernatural elements in it and it's a pretty
good slasher as well. Heading into this I was expecting
some low-budget crappy ghost story with little
imagination. What I got was the complete opposite of
that. Fingerprints looks and feels like a theatrical
film, it's got a few ghostly elements in it but the
real focus lies on the slasher aspect of the movie.
Yes, a serial killer guised as a train conductor is
killing of the teens at the local high school, and let
me tell you people, this is one of the most awesome
looking killers that I've seen in several years. It's
only a shame that we didn't get to see more of him.
Sadly, even though the movie focuses on the slasher
aspect more than on the ghost aspect, it's not enough
of a slasher flick to really fulfill your slasher
needs. It's got a fairly low bodycount, the killer
doesn't get enough on-screen time and the pacing
could have been a whole lot better. What the movie is
about? It's about a high school girl named Melanie
who's been in rehab for quite some time now. While in
rehab, her family relocated to a small town in the
middle of nowhere to get some piece and quiet and try
to start over again. Good luck. It doesn't take long
before Melanie finds out about a local ghost story,
and naturally there's more to this story than people
know. Soon enough, a killer shows up and starts killing
the teens at the school and Melanie is blamed for the
disappearances. It's not easy to stay sane when
everyone else thinks that you're crazy.
Fingerprints is a pretty clever slasher movie with an
outstanding ending. The twist may have been a bit too
predictable but at least it felt believable. It's got
some minor gore in it, a surprisingly good cast and
a lot of things going for it. Had they only rewritten
the script so that it would have been a complete
slasher flick, I'm sure that I would have liked it
even more. The ghost aspect of the movie just didn't
work for me. Still, who would have thought that this
unknown movie that came out of nowhere with one of the
most awful cover-arts of the year would prove to be a
pretty decent slasher movie? I sure as hell didn't.
A very pleasant surprise and strongly recommended for
all slasher fans even though it's not without its flaws.

A couple of impalements, a mouth sown together and
some more. Should have been gorier.

I haven't got much to complain on here, nor can
I commend them on a job well done. It was okay.

A surprisingly good slasher movie with decent production
values, a stellar cast and a somewhat original story
(as far as slasher movies go). If you want to watch a
serial killer dressed as a train conductor slash a bunch
of teens, this should be right down your alley.
