Five friends go on one last trip together before they
head off to new adventures on their own. But this
weekend may become literarily their last trip since
it seems as if everyone is hiding a dark secret, and
some secrets are darker than others.

How do you review a movie like Five? How the hell do
you review a movie like Five? This is one review I can
assure you that I'm going to struggle with as while
I didn't understand anything of what was going on at
any time through the entire film, I still kind of
enjoyed it. So I ask you again, how the hell am I
supposed to review this film when I didn't understand
any of it? The plot outline may seem basic enough but
it's far more perplexing than I made it sound.

See, five friends are going on one last trip together
before they head off to new directions in their
lives. So far you're with me right? Well, it doesn't
take long before things start to go wrong as one of
the friends is responsible for the death of another
friend. Again, still pretty easy to understand. Anyhoo,
so this person (I don't want to reveal whether it's
a male or female killer) starts killing the friends
off one by one. Then it turns out that it was all a
dream and the entire thing starts over again but plays
out in another way - but again with a bloody climax.
And guess what? Once again it was just a dream so in
the end you have no idea what really happened at this
trip, nor what anything had to do with anything.

Yes, Five is indeed a very confusing thriller but
nevertheless, it's quite a good one. I had expected an
independent low-budget slasher flick but it was far
from it. This movie was shot beautifully and the only
thing that revealed that it wasn't a high budget
production was the poor sound recording. Everything
else looked surprisingly good. The shots over the dark
woods were simply beautiful and really lifted the movie
way up. Everything else about the movie is pretty good
as well. The director knows what he's doing behind the
camera, the actors feel confident (for most part) in
front of it and you stay intrigued throughout the
entire movie since you really want to find out what's
really going on.

Unfortunately we never get a real answer to that and
in the end I was left very confused and disoriented.
Five may look the part and feel the part but when its
time for it to reach the climax, it stumbles and falls
flat. It's a very artistic film and I applaud the film
makers for daring to do something out of the ordinary,
I just don't think that the world is ready for a movie
like this since there's no apparent core audience for
it. Horror fans will most likely feel under whelmed and
for those of you looking for a thriller, it's probably
not thrilling enough. In the end, it's a decent movie
but not a whole lot more.

Not a lot here.

Fairly basic score with some drums and occasionally
overpowering suspense music.

Just when you thought you couldn't get more confused,
Five turns around and makes you even more disoriented.
I'm not sure whether you're supposed to understand this
film or not but either way it's a decent drama thriller.
Calling it a horror flick is a stretch. Worth watching
but don't try to make any sense out of it.
