Two couples
decide to go camping in the forest
to get away from the big city a while. What they
don't know is that a madman is killing off
campers in that forest. No one who goes into it,
has ever came out alive.

Ah, the good old backwoods slashers, you've got
to miss them. I've heard mixed things about
this 80s slasher and I think this was on the
video nasties list in the UK so I expected a
gore filled campy slasher. Well, the movie was
not gory in any way but it was campy, I'll
tell you that. The story revolves around a
couple of campers who are slaughtered by a
mad cannibal killer who lives in the forest
with his two ghost children. Yeah, you heard
me right, ghost children, there are actually
ghosts in this movie and while I could have
done very well without them I actually thought
it was a pretty nice and original touch.
What makes The Forest unique is the way that
it focuses more on the back-story rather than
the body count. 80s backwoods slashers, like
"Just Before Dawn" tend to focus a bit too
much on the body count rather than the story.
Sure, the story is ultimately cheesy and
ludicrous but it is very entertaining. I don't
see why some people don't like this movie
because even if it's not really a good movie,
it will still entertain you for an hour
and a half.
It surprises me that this movie still hasn't
found proper DVD distribution because I think
many slasher fans would love to see this on
DVD. This is definitely not one of those
movies that you will forget that you have
seen as it's got that little something extra.
As I said before though, this is by all means
not a great movie, but I found it pleasantly
entertaining, especially for the campiness.

We get very little gore here surprisingly
enough. We get two throat slashings and a
stab in the stomach.

You've got to love the 80s. We get nothing
but cheesy synth music, even cheesier rock
music and the cheesiest pop ballad ever.

Entertaining 80s backwoods slasher which isn't
really great but gives you a smile on your
lips after you have finished watching it. This
is definitely a movie that every slasher fan
should have in their collection.
