Amy has just started working at a run-down
orphanage. She quickly bonds with one of the
children called Maggie who claims that there's
a mechanic child haunting the orphanage. With
the children’s legs mysteriously breaking in
half, Amy finds herself running out of time
with finding out the truth about this mechanical
ghost girl, will she be able to save the
children from getting crippled in time?

Jaume Balageuró is easily one of my favourite
horror directors at the moment. I loved both
Darkness and The Nameless and so when I found
out that he had a new flick out I just had to
see it. To my great disappointment I quickly
learnt that Fragile is pretty much Darkness all
over again with a hint of The Ring thrown into
it along with Calista Flockhart to make it a
bit more mainstream.
There's a lot of potential in this story even
though it's far from original. The first 30
minutes or so are actually genuinely creepy and
to be fair, Jaume really manages to create a good
atmosphere for the movie, just like he did with
his previous movies. The directing really is top
notch once again and in that sense, Jaume didn't
disappoint me. Anyway, as I was saying, the first
half hour is pretty good and haunted orphanages
are always scary, (but haven't we seen this exact
concept before in House Of Voices? - reviewed on
Slasherpool under the title Saint-Ange).
Once the movie really gets going however, the
story is completely overshadowed by a bunch of
clichéd twists, relatively cheap special effects,
a ghost girl which is more likely to induce a
few giggles than any screams and some unnecessary
subplots that leave us with a couple of
unanswered questions. Calista is pretty good in
her role as Amy but it was impossible for me
to root for her as I couldn't stop seeing her as
the annoying lawyer (or whatever) Ally McBeal.
Over all, Fragile disappointed me. It had no
scares at all and it focused way too much on
being mainstream and being PG-13. This will
most likely be a hit in the US box-office as
the kids will love this. For more experienced
horror fans however, this will probably feel
pretty tame (I know I thought so).

Nothing worth mentioning.

As expected, the soundtrack is brilliant and
really sets a nice atmosphere. We also get to
hear some horrible rock music.

For teenyboppers, Fragile is a dream come true,
but for horror fans, I think most of you will
be less than impressed. If you ask me, I suggest
that you wait until this shows up on DVD, it's
not a bad movie, but it could have been a whole
lot better than it was.

now i havnt seen this movie, but from some of the things that i herd i do want to see it. im really really hoping this movie does not end up like the darkness, for that is by far one of the dumbest movies that i have ever seen!! i even tried to watch the movie 3 freakin times after i seen it in the movies and i still could not enjoy it...anyway may be the darkness would have actually been better if they did put a touch of the ring in it!! i have some good hopes for this and i think im going to like it....the trailer looks pretty good so ya never know!! |
