A couple of people working at a freakshow decide to
steal the freaks' money and leave them with nothing.
How they're going to this? Well since one of them,
the outsiders if you will, is a girl, she decides to
lure the carnival manager into marrying her so that
she can take all of his money. Will this cleverly
plotted idea work, or will the freaks figure out what's
really going on?

It's been a long time since we've seen an "original"
movie from The Asylum. Why they decided to go back to
making their own features rather than ripping off
theatrical horror flicks I don't know, but maybe they
should've just stuck to ripping off high budget horror
flicks as Freakshow is a really dull show. Naturally,
they've slapped on an "UNCUT" sign on the cover, and
for once this is actually a good warning since Freakshow
is actually freakishly gory, and that's about the only
redeeming quality that this movie has.

The silly premise doesn't revolve around a serial
killer killing off teens at a carnival as one might
be led to believe. It's actually more of a "2000
Maniacs" kind of movie where a young woman (who we
remember from The Asylum's terrible movie "When A
Stranger Calls") lures the freakshow manager into
marrying her so that she can run away with all of
his money. Apparently he owns several castles (yes,
they make sure of that we get that it's plural) and
is filthy rich. Really? To me he just looks filthy.
That girl has got to be one desperate ho as I don't
think that any regular prostitute would ever dream
of giving this guy a blowjob - no matter what the
price might be.

Either way, I don't see how he can be very rich since
the freakshow doesn't seem to ever have any visitors
(nor are the freaks very freaky). So the plot is
complete nonsense, but I guess you've figured that
out by now. Fortunately, as I said before, the movie
is extremely gory... well... once the movie hits the
hour mark anyway. See, two of the outsiders working at
the carnival decide to kill one of the freaks so the
freaks naturally take their revenge on all of the
outsiders in an unexpected twist (no seriously,
I actually didn't see this coming). And let me tell
you, the final torture scene is to die for. It's
one of the best on-screen torture scenes of all time
(even if it is slightly ridiculous).

To give Freakshow some more credit, I have to say that
the cinematography and colour setting is pretty damn
nice (if a bit too dark at times). It looks technically
better than it should and the acting is also surprisingly
decent. In the end, Freakshow does live up to its
title as well as the uncut sign on the cover. I still
haven't figured out why it says "The ORIGINAL uncut
version" though since that makes it sound like an old
movie. Either way, the plot is absolutely horrible but
if you're looking for boobs and gore, you've found the
right movie (and I know many of you will rent this
movie on that comment alone).

We get hooks pierced into the backs (a la The Cell and
a very disturbing porno I once watched), a chopped up
body, a gory neck bite, a bashed in head, a tongue cut
off, and a whole lot more.

At first I enjoyed the old freakshow music, but it
quickly got, well, old. There wasn't any real suspense
music in here, just the annoying freakshow music in
poor quality (deliberately, obviously).

If you're looking for a movie filled with boobs and
gore, Freakshow is the movie for you. It's got a
horrible plot though and you might as well just skip
past the first hour of the movie and save yourself
some time. Perhaps Asylum is better off sticking to
ripping off high budget horror flicks instead.
