A woman dressed in white, from head to toe, enters
a cheap motel. Everyone staying at the hotel
freaks out when they see her, including the
owners. Later we find out that the reason for this
was because this woman's twin sister, Asa, had
mysteriously disappeared some time ago. It doesn't
take long before the tenants start to show up
dead one by one. What really happened to Asa? And
exactly what is her twin sister doing at the motel?

I'm betting my money on that very few people will
be interested enough in the story to actually sit
through the entire movie and find out what really
happened to Asa. Well, I'm not really bothered
because the destination isn't worth the trip.
Asian horror movies are known for being slow paced,
and usually that's a positive thing in these kind
of movies, you know, so that the tension builds
up more and more as you go along. Unfortunately,
the slow pacing in Futago is a very negative thing
as it takes a lot of effort to just get past
the first 15 minutes of it.
It's funny because even though this is incredibly
slow, we are still left with heaps of gaping plot
holes. For example, Mio (the twin sister to Asa),
changes from a white dress to a red dress all
of a sudden for no apparent reason. The acting is
also very average and the only way that this
dull movie could have worked would have been if
the cast would have been strong - which it's not.
On a more positive note though, it was nice to
see some originality in an Asian horror flick
again instead of having the same old Ring girl
appear from a puddle of water every now and then.
In the end, Futago still feels like a very
unnecessary addition to the Asian horror genre.
This is not a movie which we can expect a remake
of any time soon. The movie is impressively slow
and the story just isn't very interesting. The
fact that the directing and photography is nice
doesn't help a lot. There are a lot of great
Asian horror flicks out there so check them out
instead of this one as I highly doubt that you
will make it all the way til the end.

Nothing much, some melting skin and some blood.

Asa went to Hong Kong to pursue her singing
career in this movie so naturally we get to hear
a song that she made and it is awful. Don't
expect a whole lot from the rest of the score
either, it should've been better.

Futago is one of the slowest movies that I've
seen in quite some time and the ending really
isn't worth sticking around for even though
this is one of the more original Asian horror
movies as of lately. Check it out if you'd like
but don't expect to be able to stay awake until
the dull ending.
