A family
of three travel to their house in the
country for a couple of days of relaxation. However,
the daughter is soon possessed by the couple's
unborn child, Gauri who promises to terrorize them
for three days until she will finally kill their
daughter, Shivani.

More often than not, Indian horror films are cheap
imitations of other successful horror movies only
with some tacky musical numbers thrown into the
mixture. As of lately, Bollywood horror films have
seized having musical numbers in them for some
reason but the quality of the movies remains the
same. Gauri is an original production with no clear
influences where an unborn child terrorizes a family
of three and you know, let's be honest here, this
isn't a bad movie, it's actually quite okay and it
sports some stunning visuals. So why the low rating?
Well, read on to find out.
Shivani and her parents go on vacation for a couple
of days to their big house in the country. It doesn't
take long however before Shivani starts acting
strange and it is soon revealed that the soul of
her parents' unborn child has taken over her body
so that she can get revenge on her parents. The
concept is decent, the acting is pretty good and
I have no real complaints on the technical aspects
of the movie. However, the thing I hated with Gauri
was that this felt like a 90 minute long anti-
abortion propaganda movie. Taken from Wikipedia;
"Although abortion is legal, it is estimated that
four million Indian women a year still resort to
illegal abortions because of social taboos,
misconceptions about the law, and the lack of
skilled practitioners and medical facilities."
It is obvious what standpoint the director and
writers had going into this film and it is not
handled with subtlety.
Furthermore, Gauri isn't a very evil child if you
ask me, she just asks like any really spoiled brat,
and the parents do nothing to help the situation.
It never comes close to being scary or suspenseful
and the entire thing left a bad taste in my mouth.
I was actually kind of disgusted by the whole
approach to the concept. It felt like an immature
movie filled with rage really, there was no love
put into this film, only hatred and it rubs off on
you. If you're against abortion, you may find this
movie enjoyable but if you, like me, think that
it's up to each individual to make that decision,
you will probably have a hard time enjoying this.
Gauri could've been okay but it just frustrated me
to the point where I couldn't enjoy it. This movie
should be treated as a lesson to all rookie
directors - never let your personal standpoints
reflect too heavily on your film as it could be
your downfall and that's just what happened here.

No.

Some unnecessary and short songs, nothing memorable.

Gauri is a tragic waste of space and feels more like
an anti-abortion movie than a horror flick - and
not a very good one at that. The opinions reflected
in this movie are medieval and I was a bit disgusted
by the whole thing. Not worth your time or money.
