Becky decides to go out dancing one night since
she's sick of being single. She promises her
parents to be home by 11PM but when she meets
a guy that she likes the hours go by quickly and
meanwhile at home, a gas leak has caused her
parents to die. Blaming herself for the tragedy,
she heads to her parents cottage upstate, on her
way to the cottage she picks up a man who she
becomes friends with quickly. It seems as if
Becky's life might take a turn for the better
again... what she doesn't know is that in the
lake by her cottage, something evil is waiting
for her...

Mr. Jay Woelfel is at it once again. This time
he tells us a story about a haunted lake. You
can already tell that it won't be too good. The
only reason to why I even bothered checking it
out was because of the box art which is the best
DTV cover art of 2004. The movie uses every
cheesy horror movie cliché that it can think of.
We have weird "scary" sequences which turn out
to be dreams, we have plot turns that not only
make no sense but also can be seen from a miles
distance. We have constant camera flipping
between widescreen and fullscreen and we have
glowing swamp zombies, or ghosts as Mr. Jay himself
likes to call them.

I wonder why this movie was even called Ghost
Lake. The only possible reasons that I can think
of is that either it wanted to cash in on Ghost
Ship, considering the look-a-like poster, or
because the title Zombie Lake was already taken.
Either way, these so called ghosts are not very
ghostly. There are a couple of scares here and
there and the acting isn't all that bad... at
least not all the time but the best thing about
the movie has to be all the laughs you get from
it. There's this one scene where a man wants to
come into Becky's house but before he manages
to convince her a zombie pops up out of nowhere
and makes his face start squirting water endlessly
and I've got to tell you, that scene was utterly
hilarious so I've got to hand that one to Jay.

Ghost Lake wasn't all that bad I guess, it does
have its moments and it's never a complete
snooze-fest. It keeps you interested and it
manages to give you a couple of jumps. I'd
have to say that this is one of the better
Woelfel productions I've seen and I've seen
quite a few. If you like his other movies, you
ought to check this one out but don't expect
a movie about a haunted lake because it's more
of a zombie flick than a ghost flick.

Nope. Well I think there was blood splattered
on the camera at one time but it looked very,
and I mean, very fake.

Jay Woelfel did not only do the writing and
directing for this flick but he also did the
soundtrack. Something which he was not good at.
The soundtrack is absolutely terrible and very
constant, there are few moments without any
kind of cheesy background music.

Possibly attractive to those who liked Zombie
Lake but highly doubtful. Ghost Lake involves
few ghosts and many hilarious zombies. I'm
just surprised it didn't say horror comedy on
the cover as I laughed more than I screamed.
