When her
brother mysteriously dies, Nuntha has to look
after his children. Every morning they all get up early
to sell doughnuts so that they can earn enough money¨
to get by. When Nuntha finds out that her brother had
worked as an undercover agent to gather evidence on
some powerful criminals, she's brutally killed and
dumped in a swamp. But since no one knows that Nuntha
is in fact dead except for the criminals, Nuntha's
spirit returns to look after the children... and to
take revenge on those who killed her.

If you combine the scenes that can be labelled as horror
in this flick, you'll get about 6 or 7 minutes of
material. Ghost Mother is yet another mediocre ghost
flick from Thailand that fails to thrill, entertain
and deliver the goods. Just like Indonesia, Thailand
is churning out several horror flicks every year and
while most of them are rubbish, some of them are just
outstanding. Ghost Mother is not one of them. Because
while the horror scenes are... well, the horror scenes
in this movie are actually pretty damn great, the rest
of the story is uninteresting and sappy. Trying to
combine a ghost story with a drama is often difficult
since a drama usually needs a much more complex script
than a ghost story, something which these guys seem to
have forgotten. Judging by the thin and flat script,
it seems as if the story was written in only a few days.
Ghost Mother (which is an extremely bad choice of title
seeing as how the ghost in question is in fact an aunt)
revolves around Nuntha, a woman who takes care of her
niece and nephews single-handedly. They're getting by
by selling doughnuts on the street and generally live
a quite happy life. That is until Nuntha is brutally
killed by some thugs. The next day she returns to her
home as usual since nobody knows that she's dead
(and nobody seems to reflect on the fact that she's
extremely pale and ghost-looking). She starts seeking
out the people who killed her and start killing them
one by one. The only thing is, during the course of
the movie, only two people are killed (and one of the
kills is even off screen). Everything happens in the
final two minutes of the movie and even then it's not
that exciting. It's really a shame because two of the
death scenes are just outstanding.
You know, I feel as if I have reviewed this movie so
many times before that I don't feel like going much
further into it. Ghost Mother is your usual dull horror
fare from Thailand which doesn't impress at anything.
It could very well be the follow-up to the mediocre
horror movie "Colic" for all I know, and that would
indeed explain a whole lot. If you're looking for a
creepy and memorable ghost story, this movie is not
for you. It's got a few redeemable qualities but they're
not nearly enough to make this movie worth while. It's
a boring supernatural drama, and is it only me or have
we had just about enough of those?

A cool decapitation and a great scene where a guy gets
a large piece of glass in his forehead.

Mediocre soundtrack with some okay techno music and a
generic suspense score.

Extremely forgettable supernatural drama with some hints
of horror in it. Unfortunately the horror aspect of the
movie is left in the background (the teaser poster for
this flick REALLY lied) and we're stuck with a sappy
drama that doesn't really lead anywhere. Don't bother
with this poorly scripted flick, it's not worth it.
