Two high school
girls from very different cliques
are brought together by a terrible curse. It seems
as if the local subway is haunted, and anyone who
picks up an object left on the train will die a
horrible death. Now it's up to the two girls to
find a way to stop the curse before it's too late.

Heading into this movie I was expecting another
generic Asian ghost movie - and that was just what
I got. Ghost Train certainly doesn't attempt to be
anything original, instead it takes (once again)
ingredients from some of the more successful J-horror
flicks of the past and tries to improve on them.
Does it succeed? Not even close. But it does provide
a plot interesting enough to keep you entertained
(something which few Asian horror flicks seem to be
able to do these days).
The story is pretty much what you expect it to be,
only I found the alternative title, Ghost Tunnel, to
be much more appropriate since it's in fact about a
haunted tunnel and not a train like the original
title suggests. The movie revolves around two girls,
Nana and Kanae. After riding the train one day,
Nana's sister goes missing and Nana soon starts to
suspect that the subway is haunted. Kanae finds a
bracelet on the same train and decides to put it on,
something which turns out to be a very bad idea as
she can't get it off again. The two girls are brought
together by these mysterious events and decide to
try to solve the mystery of the haunted tunnel.
If you've seen the South Korean horror flick, Red-Eye,
you've more or less all ready seen this movie. It's
got a very similar plot and of course, the long-haired
ghost girl is once again here to make us jump out of
our seats - but is unsuccessful at that. They've
also taken ingredients from The Ring with smudged-out
pictures and the ghosts (there are several ghosts to
be found in here) make very grudge-like sounds. But
we all ready know that it's a generic movie so I'm
not really sure why I'm telling you all this.
Ultimately, Ghost Train is another Asian horror flick
that thinks that it's put an interesting spin on
the ghost concept - which it really hasn't. It's a
decent movie, I'll give it that, but it's all too
familiar and we've seen it too many times before.
Entertaining enough but I'd rather recommend that
you watch Shutter again.

A goreless impalement.

Similar to the score in the brilliant horror movie
"Kairo" (aka Pulse) but doesn't work quite as well
in here. Powerful but, again, generic.

If I haven't said it out many times enough all ready,
this movie is generic, generic, generic - but it is
entertaining enough to keep you watching until the
very end. You know what to expect with Asian horror
movies these days and that's exactly what you get
with Ghost Train as well.
