Dr. Miranda Grey is the best doctor at a penitentiary. She's
currently trying to help a woman named Chloe who claims that
the devil has raped her numerous times during her time in the
penitentiary. Miranda knows that the patient is crazy so she
obviously doesn't believe a word that she's saying. Later
the same night, on her way home from work, she almost hits
a girl with her car. That fateful night has taken her to
the other side of the door in the penitentiary and it's up
to her to find out what really happened that night.
Dark Castle must've realised that their latest movies, 13 Ghosts
and Ghost Ship stunk since they've changed their image completely
in this movie. In Gothika they have decided to throw the buckets
of fake gore away and bring in a good story. It is quite
obvious that the crew behind this film were inspired by The Ring
as this could be called the American answer to the Asian Ring
while not remaking it completely like Verbinski decided to do.
Sadako (Samara) has been replaced by a blonde girl and the
journalist is now a doctor. There are many other resemblances
to The Ring aswell but as they are complete movie spoilers I
will avoid mentioning them.
Big names have been brought into this movie and it does show
that this cast is experienced. Halle Berry is ofcourse the
glow in this movie and Penélope Cruz is surprisingly good
aswell and though she's only got a small part, she manages
to create a very strong character. The directing is good as
always when it comes to Dark Castle, they always seem to find
the best suited directors for their movies. I especially loved
how the camera moves through the glass doors. You'll know what
I mean when you see it.
I was probably the only one who wasn't impressed by the
trailer for Gothika. I thought it looked like a slow moving
thriller more than a suspenseful horrormovie. I was wrong.
This movie is the exact opposite to what I thought it would
be. It made me jump more than 6 times, towards the end I had
lost track of how many times I had jumped so all I know is
that it was approximately 6-8 times. I loved this movie and
I am definitely checking this out again with some other friends
tomorrow night.

Nah, the gore has dried in at Dark Castle, sorry, all we get
is some bloody bruises.

Very eerie soundtrack, which suits this movie perfectly. This
time Dark Castle have decided not to have hip music, there
was just spooky background music in this.

This is a damn good horrormovie and I am so pissed that it
opened up with a small release as this deserves a big release.
I hope that this becomes a success so that Dark Castle will
continue with making these kind of movies. If you haven't
checked this one out yet, be sure to do so. It's creepy and
has a fantastic story.
