After their friends sudden death, Harris, Kira and Sid
decide to have one final reunion and spend a night at
the cemetery by their friends grave. After a couple of
drinks, they're all in a pretty good mood, but when
Sid finds a mysterious letter by his friends grave,
things take a turn for the worse. The friends soon
find themselves haunted by evil ghosts, and together
with two paranormal investigators, they have to find
a way to stop this curse before it's too late.

Five years after his amusing horror-comedy "The
Convent", Mike Mendez takes an unexpected approach
to the haunted house genre and impressed me with this
creepy and original horror flick. While not flawless,
this was an entertaining and suspenseful ride which
will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the
entire movie.

This creepy little horror tale tells the story of
four friends who get in a lot of trouble after dancing
on some graves. Unaware that the graves they were
dancing on belonged to demented killers, the friends
soon find themselves haunted by evil spirits. They
seek help from a couple of paranormal investigators
who are anxious to help the friends find a solution
to their problem, but they have no idea what they've
just gotten themselves into.

When I started watching this, I thought I was in for
a generic haunted house flick a la The Haunting, and
at first I was right. The movie starts out with the
classic haunted house elements; doors suddenly opening,
walls creaking, strange noises from within the house.
Sure, it was all quite creepy, but it wasn't anything
out of the ordinary. Luckily, this all changed once
the movie went into second gear. The ghosts are not
only incredibly creepy, but they're also quite
unusual. Think the crypt keeper on happy pills. And
while I'm sure they looked pretty ridiculous on the
set, Mendez somehow manages to make them feel both
intimidating and scary - and believe me, that's not
an easy thing to do with demonic skeletons.

If you've seen any pictures of the ghosts, I'm sure
your quite sceptical, but just believe me when I tell
you that they actually work really well. Moving on to
the main story, which isn't all that original really.
It's interesting enough, but I sometimes felt as if
it could have been an even better movie had it taken
some unexpected directions - which it never did. It was
all pretty predictable. The characters are all classic
stereotypes and I had a hard time rooting for any of
them. Another small negative thing I have to say is
that the climax felt downright cheesy.

However, in the end I was still more than satisfied
with the result. In an era of creepy ghost girls, it's
nice to see that someone out there is still trying to
make good, original haunted house movies. This is a
great and suspenseful horror movie which delivers both
the scares and the chills. Finally, let me quote
"Black Christmas" when I say - if this doesn't make
your skin crawl - it's on too tight!

A slit throat, nothing much.

Great suspense score and I loved the creepy piano
music as well. I have no complaints here.

The Gravedancers sure is a bloody good movie! It's
suspenseful, it's creepy and it's got an original and
tight story which will keep you on the edge of your
seat. A truly terrifying horror flick which I strongly
recommend. It might not be flawless, but if you're
looking for a good time, you've found it.
