A couple of teens are spending the weekend at Grizzly
Park to do some community service after having been
involved in various illegal activities. There hasn't
been a single grizzly bear in the park since the late
1920's and the woods seem fairly safe - even though
the park ranger in charge claims that there are still
several terrors awaiting them in the woods. What no
one knows is that there is still a grizzly bear living
in the park - and he hasn't eaten in ages!

Making a killer bear film isn't easy and for some
bizarre reason, film makers still haven't given up
trying to do creature features revolving around killer
bears. Over the last couple of years we've seen some
atrocious films in this rare subgenre such as Grizzly
Rage and Savage Planet and you'd think that they'd
learnt by now that bears aren't scary. They're like
big cuddly teddy bears. Well anyway, as far as killer
bear films go, Grizzly Park is actually a somewhat
decent attempt. Once again we're mainly stuck with
dull footage (most likely filmed in a zoo) of a big
grizzly bear doing various poses in front of the
camera and a big paw slashing the victims to pieces
while the bear itself is off screen. BUT, Grizzly
Park has some redeeming qualities that other movies
with this concept haven't had.

The movie obviously had a much higher budget than the
titles that I mentioned earlier in my review and that
saves it a lot. It's nice to look at, it goes by fairly
quick and even though there's not a lot of bear action
going on, the story is interesting enough to keep you
entertained. Believe it or not, but the character's
aren't actually all that cardboard. They're actually
all pretty likeable for different reasons because even
though they have a hard outside, we get to see that
they all have a humble side to them as well and that
they're all struggling with some serious issues. To make
things even better, the cast is also surprisingly good
with some above average actors. I think these are the
main reasons as to why this turned out to be so decent.

I did feel like there was a little TOO much going on
at times though. There's not just a killer bear
roaming around in these woods, there's also a demented
serial killer guised as a cop and very vicious wolves
who are also responsible for some of the killing.
I understand that they had to throw these things in
to make the pace of the movie more even but it kind of
felt like padding to me. It didn't add to the story.
You know, Grizzly Park is not going to hit cinemas,
I'm pretty sure of this, this is still very much a
DTV horror flick but it's a pretty decent one at that.
If you're looking for a killer bear movie, I think
that this is the one movie you need to check out. It
may not have a whole lot of action in it but it's
fairly entertaining and it's got a decent amount of
gore in it. Definitely worth a rent.

We get a piece of a head, some dismembered body parts,
some guts, a head slashed in half and some more. It
took a little too long for the movie to get there but
yeah it's definitely gory enough.

Nothing out of the ordinary here.

One of the better killer bear films that I've seen. It's
got an interesting story, some cool characters, a decent
amount of gore and some okay shots of the grizzly. It's
nothing spectacular but if you're looking for a killer
bear flick - this is the way to go.
