Antonio Frau has just been released from prison
after killing his girlfriend 25 years ago. He has
inherited an old hotel and it doesn't take more
than a couple of weeks before he gets married to
a woman he barely knows. They fix up the entire
hotel, except for room 6, this is where Antonio
tortures, rapes and kills prostitutes.

H6 has been described as a Spanish interpretation
of "Hostel" by several movie critics. I personally
found this more similar to "Murder-Set-Pieces" in
that it feels like it tries too hard to be
controversial. The story is unoriginal and revolves
around Antonio who is a sadistic serial killer. He
shares his thoughts and observations with the
viewer while he tortures and kills prostitutes.
There's not really a whole lot more to the story
than that - even if many people say that there is.

Sure, it's occasionally clever and it does manage
to keep the viewers interest, but just because you
throw some disturbing scenes into a movie doesn't
mean that you've accomplished anything out of the
ordinary. H6 isn't a mainstream movie by any means
but director Martín Garrido Barón insists on copying
some of the most controversial movies in horror
movie history, which is why this feels so old and
plain - it's all been done before. Martín's main
inspiration seems to have been Nacho Cerda's cult
gem "Aftermath" and trying to top that movie is
close to impossible (in this subgenre that is).

Even though I didn't necessarily love this movie,
I still have to point out that I was never even
close to pressing the fast forward button on my
remote. Long torture scenes might be difficult to
watch, but at least the movie keeps a good pace.
In its entirety however, I was not impressed by H6.
It's an unnecessarily brutal movie and the diary
of a serial killer concept has just been done to
death. It doesn't really add anything new to the
subgenre but I guess that rookie horror fans might
be impressed by this relatively incompetent horror
flick. I'd skip it if I were you but since this has
gotten a couple of good reviews from other sites,
you might as well check it out and get your own opinion.

I've heard that this is supposed to be extremely
gory but all I saw was a bunch of severed body parts.
Brutal? Yeah. Gory? Well, not the Tartan version anyway.

This is my main reason to suspect that this was
inspired by Aftermath. The entire score consists of
classical music. Hasn't this all been done a couple
of times too many before?

Perhaps entertaining to some but I just found this
uncreative and incompetent. It's a serial killer
flick where you get to follow the serial killer
while he tortures prostitutes - not exactly original
if you ask me. The same thing has been done many
times before and in much better ways. I just didn't
think that it was a very good movie.
