Halloween night - the one night you can do indulge
your most perverted fantasies and no one will
judge you is here, and four gay guys are going to
a party. What they don't know is that they've
been followed by a mysterious man in a devils mask,
and his intentions are anything but sexual. As the
night unfolds, the friends soon find themselves
running for their lives. Will anyone survive this
night of terror?

Hellbent is the first "real" gay slasher flick
ever made and ever since this came out about two
years ago, I've been dying to see it - I just
never got the chance. Well now it's finally been
released on DVD so naturally I ordered myself a
copy, only to realize that this wasn't going to
be as good as I had hoped.

This movie takes the basic slasher concept and
just replaces the chicks with dicks, which is an
original and inventive twist, but is it inventive
enough? Well, I really don't think so. I mean,
it's a gay slasher movie but I think they missed
their target audience by only having one atractive
guy star in the movie. Sure, there are some other
good-looking guys at the party but they're never
utilized. Also, there are close to no real sex
scenes which is kind of odd seeing as how they
marketed it so heavily as a GAY slasher flick.

If you think this is a movie that just gay guys
and chicks can enjoy you're wrong. Even with me
being a bit disappointed, I still have to say
that Hellbent is one of the more entertaining
slashers that I've seen recently. It hasn't got
the best production values and it didn't really
deserve a limited theatrical release if you ask
me, but this is the kind of movie that you just
watch to kill some time with.

Ultimately, I would have done many things
differently with this movie even if the death
scenes are pretty cool. It's a great idea and
I hope to see more gay slasher flicks in the
future, perhaps a Hellbent 2?. But no matter how
entertaining this was, I still felt let down. My
favourite gay horror movie is still "October
Moon" and this didn't even come near to being as
good as that one. Finally, I'd like to say
praise the people behind this film for at least
daring to do something different.

A lot of decapitations and decapitated heads.

Another thing which disappointed me was the score.
Most of the music is rock music and I know many
gay guys - none of them would ever go to a club
where nothing but rock music is played. Maybe
I'm wrong but aren't gay clubs generally playing
dance music? Even if we got some of that as well
I just didn't think that it was enough.

I'm sorry to say that I felt let down after having
watched this. I had expected a lot more action and
excitement but it failed at creating the right
atmosphere. I never thought I'd say this about
anything but Hellbent just wasn't gay enough (how
weird does that sound huh?).
