A couple
of hitch-hikers are kidnapped and forced
to work hard at a ranch. But this is no ordinary
ranch. It's run by a demented family who tortures
and kills the ones that don't do their duties
properly. With nowhere to run, it seems like this
is the end for these hitch-hikers - is there
any possible way to get out of this nightmare?

Hoboken Hollow opens up very confusingly with way
too many characters being introduced at the same
time and this really put me off. But it didnt take
very long before it took a turn for the better.
We quickly learn that the movie revolves around
a ranch run by a couple of demented rednecks who
torture and kill their hard-working employees,
who are in fact kidnapped freeloaders. And not
only is this a great and original story but it's
also executed brilliantly.
Director Glen Stephens sure knew what he was
doing when he made this film. It's fast-paced,
it's brutal and he makes us root for almost all
of the characters - except for the villains of
course. The acting is also top-notch with a couple
of surprisingly big names in the cast such as
Jason Connery, C. Thomas Howell, Lin Shaye,
Michael Madsen, Dennis Hopper and the list goes
on and on. Now, I have lost a lot of respect
for Michael Madsen, especially after his terrible
performance in Uwe Boll's Bloodrayne and I have
to say that I think that he gave us one of the
weakest performances in this flick as well. Lin
Shaye however never disappoints.
Hoboken Hollow had me glued to the screen and
while it does have some minor flaws, this was
over-all a great start for Glen Stephens and I
hope that we get to see more redneck horror
flicks like this from him in the future. It's
obviously inspired by movies like "Wrong Turn"
and "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre", which I both
love so if you're a fan of "vintage horror" then
you should definitely check this one out as it's
not something that you get to see everyday.

We get a lot of dismembered body parts, a couple
of impalements and a lot of torturing. Good stuff.

Very competent score which surprised me considering
the budget of this movie. Not your average suspense
score, it actually felt like someone had put a
lot of time into making it which was nice to hear.

Hoboken Hollow is a great horror flick which has
got all of the right ingredients. A good story,
slick directing and a great cast. This is definitely
a movie for fans of movies like "Wrong Turn" and
"The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" so don't miss this
one - it's a surprisingly good horror flick.
