American troupes, patrolling through the forests, are
having a hard time staying alive while killing the
Germans. It doesn't help that scientists, working
under Hitler, have been conducting experiments on
German soldiers to transform them into the
ultimate weapons either. They soon find themselves
in a war against nazi werewolves and zombies, is
there any way to stop this madness?

Am I ever so disappointed. I've been wanting to see
this WWII horror flick for ages and since it's
finally been released in Japan on DVD, I immediately
ordered it. Unfortunately, this turned out to be
a dull fair without a single scare.

While I do enjoy the occasional drama, I'm not a
big fan of the genre - and Horrors Of War was all
about the drama, and not a very good one at that
either. I will come back to this later, but first,
let me describe the plot a little more in detail.
The story revolves around a bunch of American soldiers
who spend their time strolling around in the European
forests. They soon start running into various kinds
of manimals like werewolves, zombies and mutants.
Sure, this sounds intriguing enough but the focus
never lies on the horror. Oh no, instead we get to
listen to sappy stories about what the soldiers have
been through. And now, let me tell you exactly WHY
this doesn't work as a drama.

There are NO real characters in the movie. And for
a drama to be dramatic and evoke feelings, you have
to be able to root for people. I realize that people
die and change groups, etc, in wars but I could
barely keep track of a single person who was in the
movie from the beginning till the end. There was no
red line in it what-so-ever. And furthermore, why
did they try so hard on making it feel realistic?
It's a movie with mutants and zombies, we all ready
know that this didn't happen.

The final climax, which is obviously the best thing
about the movie, was pretty strange. Possible spoilers
ahead. From out of nowhere, a wolf-man shows up and
starts fighting with the zombie. We have no idea why
they are fighting, they just are. I guess the film-
makers thought that it would be cool with a long
showdown. Either way, I just didn't get that part so
if someone could please explain it to me that would
be great... oh hang on, I don't really care.

Ultimately this wasn't a very good movie and it's
definitely aimed at the wrong crowd. Perhaps this
is more suitable for the action audience than the
horror audience, I just think that as an action
film - it'd be pretty dull. Don't hold your breath
for this one, both Deathwatch and The Bunker were
better war horror flicks.

We get a bloody skeleton and a very poor impalement.

It's obvious that someone worked very hard on this
score, but it still doesn't come off as better than
average. Perhaps it's played too silently, either
way, I wasn't very impressed.

Horrors Of War is a low-budget movie and while they
have managed to do a whole lot with what little
money they had, that's still not an excuse for why
this is so dull and slow-paced. It's got several
problems and the red line just isn't there. I'd skip
this one and check out Deathwatch instead.
