After Wes finds out about a way to buy cheap pot he brings
his girlfriend and two of his friends to check things out.
It appears that in order to get to the drugs they have to
go through a tunnel to meet with the drug dealers half the
way into the tunnel. What they don't know is that something
much more dangerous than a couple of drug dealers is
hiding in the tunnels, the intermedio, people that have
been trapped between the dead and the living and are forced
to do as they are told by their master. When they finally
realize that something's not right, it might be too late.

As Asylum Entertainment have been picking up the rights for
many excellent horror flicks lately I simply had to check
their latest release out, especially considering the fact
that it stars the beautiful and talented scream queen
Cerina Vincent. To my great disappointment it wasn't as
good as I was hoping it would be. Intermedio, originally
entitled El Intermedio though the title changed for
unknown reasons, is one of those movies that has lots of
potential but a story too weak to survive as a feature
film. While the first 40 minutes are so are excellent, I was
almost positive I was going to give this 4/5 while I was
watching it, the last 30 minutes dragged this movie down
a lot. Not only does it get repetitive and clichéd, but
it also becomes ultimately dull and comes out feeling like
just another DTV horror flick that will be lost in the
video store shelf.
As mentioned before I was happy to see Cerina Vincent in
here but while she's doing the best she can, her
co-actors doesn't exactly help her a lot since this
movie is simply filled with hilariously bad overacting.
I mean, as a horror movie fan I can usually overlook
bad acting but this was just plain terrible. It's a shame
to see that horror icon Edward Furlong has lost his
touch completely after hit movies like "Terminator 2"
and "Pet Sematary 2" and "American History X" and,
well yeah, he's been in a lot of great movies but
believe it or not, he was quite possibly the worst part
about the entire movie. Debut director Andrew Lauer
however shows us that we haven't seen the last from
him. The directing and photography is beautiful for
the eye and you really do get the feeling of just how
horribly filthy these tunnels are.
It's a shame that the script writers didn't spend just a
little more time on the script because this could have
been so much more than just another DTV flick. Intermedio
is still something that you might want to see as the
first 40 minutes or so are gory, fun, original and very
entertaining. But all in all, I'm disappointed that it
didn't use its full potential and I'm disappointed by
the bad acting and most of all, I'm disappointed at Asylum
Entertainment, I was hoping they had taken a turn for
the better. I guess we'll see in the future what Asylum
manages to spit out, hopefully it will be a little more
creative than this.

Well I wouldn't want to be part of the cleaning staff on
this set! We get a chain through eye, one gets split in
half, we get bloody stabbings, gory and rotten corpses
and a whole lot more!

I don't know how to describe the soundtrack really. But
to give you an idea of how it was, go outside on a windy
day and listen to the sounds that the rough wind is
making, there you have the soundtrack.

"What a horrible day!" quickly became one of my favourite
quotes from this film, but sadly there's not a whole lot
more to love about this flick. The first 40 minutes
are absolutely kick ass, but the rest of the film is
unfortunately just ass. If you want to see Cerina Vincent
in a tight top and a lot of gory murders, check it out,
just don't expect anything out of the ordinary.
