A bunch of students awaken the spirit of the old
brutal pirate "Jolly Roger" when they open a
coffin that has floated ashore. Now, the evil
pirate is once again free to slaughter whoever
comes in his way... or does he have a pattern?

I had read a couple of positive reviews about this
flick so I decided to check it out. I mean, after
all, The Asylum is the distributor. When I started
watching it I thought that I was in for a masked
slasher flick, well, it appears that it's actually
a zombie pirate flick and no matter how cheesy that
may sound, this was still pretty good. The story is
actually rather interesting and thought-out with no
obvious plot holes while still managing to throw in
a couple of twists that actually make sense.

Jolly Roger is one of the better-looking DTV horror
flicks that I've seen as well. It looks very
professional and slick with excellent camerawork and
eye-catching photography. The acting is also pretty
good even if far from as impressive as the directing
was. There are no real stereotypes and I love it how
the screenwriter dared to get rid of all the clichés.
When you're making a low budget horror flick that's
not an easy thing to do since clichés usually work
so in my eyes this felt like a very original movie.

The Asylum seem to be releasing the best DTV horror
flicks available at the moment so I really truly hope
that we'll get to see some of their releases on the
big screen soon. Watch out for this company as they
are now clearly the best company when it comes to
DTV horror flicks. Jolly Roger might not be the best
movie ever made but it sure as hell beats the living
crap out of most of the recent DTV horror movies so
I definitely suggest that you check this one out.

We get a whole lot of gory decapitations, a chick gets
split in half, one gets a stick through the eye, one
guy loses his arm and a whole lot more! Will please
any gore fanatic out there.

I wasn't too keen on the soundtrack actually, they've
used way too much rock music and way too little
atmospheric background music. Some more deep bass
vibes would have been nice.

Surprisingly entertaining zombie slasher which will
not only please slasher fans and gore fans but might
actually even please zombie fans so I definitely
suggest that you check this one out. Not the best
movie ever made but it's good enough on a rainy summer
night! Don't get scared off by the title.
