Kaidan Shin Mimibukuro is the latest addition to the
Japanese Horror Anthology movies. This time it's a
theatrical one. It consists of 8 different short
horror stories that involve ghosts. We have decided
to make short reviews for each story which will also
describe the plot so read on for reviews on each
short horror story.

When I received this in the mail and looked at the DVD
cover I thought to myself "yeah, this'll be a good
Ringu rip-off". When I later realized that it was yet
another anthology I was a bit more sceptical as I know
that Japanese horror anthologies rarely are good. I was
right to be sceptical, check out my mini reviews for
each story below.

Story number one, "The Night Watchman" is
about a couple of security guards seeing ghosts late
at night while on their shifts. This short story is
absolutely terrible and not frightening in the least
as not one person in the story dies. I can imagine
that 90% of the audience left the theatre after having
seen the first story.
Final Rating: 1/5

Story number two, "Wisps Of Smoke" is
about three friends on their way to a party but when
they get lost they decide to stop to take a breath. Big
mistake, soon enough the friends start disappearing,
literarily, one after another. This was less terrible
than the first one but still not very good, we never
find out what's causing the disappearance of the three
girls and this as well is not scary in the least.
Final Rating: 2/5

Story number three, "Gloves" is
about a woman who thinks that a ghost bride is trying
to strangle her each night. Another jaw dropingly bad
movie but just like the others this is watchable due
to the good directing. Thin story which could've been
told in even less time, but on the other hand, none of
these stories needed more than one minute of running
time. Ugh!
Final Rating: 1/5

Story number four, "The Weight" is almost
identical to the previous story except for this time
it's a man terrorizing a woman in her bed. Just as bad,
but a little shorter which was appreciated.
Final Rating: 1/5

Story number five, "Full-Length Mirror" involves
a ghost haunting a basketball court, enough said. At
least I jumped once but all in all this is almost just
as bad as the rest of them. I mean, come on, a ghost
running around with a basketball, how good can it
possibly be? I should've seen this one coming. Oh wait,
I did, I just didn't have a choice since I had to
review this garbage.
Final Rating: 2/5

Story number six, "Line Of Sight" is
about a school girl filming a ghost which later comes
out of the TV screen and, assumingly kills her. The
best story in this anthology but that doesn't say
much, a complete The Ring rip-off.
Final Rating: 3/5

Story number seven, "The Promise" is about
a guy who moves into his uncle's apartment where
he starts hearing voices over and over again which
drives him mad. Repetitive and stupid story but with
a pretty cool looking ghost girl, think about the
woman from The Grudge but much bigger.
Final Rating: 2/5

Story number eight, "Hisao" is about
a woman who misses her dead, bullied son and
believes that he's still alive. Thank god this was
the last one as it was surely the worst one. How
long can one sit and watch a woman speak about her
lost son? Not even horror, just dull drama.
Final Rating: 0/5

No gore at all, I don't even think there are any
on-screen kills going on here.

Pretty average soundtrack in all of the movies, you
would expect more sound effects from a theatrical
Japanese horror flick though.

All in all this was yet another Japanese ghost flick
that didn't live up to its DVD cover. Don't waste
your time on this one, even if it's nicely directed,
it's far from entertaining. Eight stupid stories
drawn out for almost two hours destroyed my Monday
night, I wouldn't recommend this, the stories are
bearable at best.
