Mira wakes up
in the hospital after a bad car accident.
She's suffering from a severe case of amnesia and
doesn't remember anything about her husband or her
daughter. She slowly starts to realize that before
the crash she wasn't a very kind person, her daughter
resents her and it seems as if she had an affair
behind her husband's back as well. To make things
even worse, an evil spirit has followed her from the
hospital and is terrorizing Mira.

The Eye, Alone, Shutter, you know, there's no point
in even trying to pinpoint what horror movies recent
Asian ghost movies have ripped off. Especially not
when it comes to Pinoy horror flicks from Regal
Studios. Mag-Ingat Ka sa... Kulam was the horror event
of the year in the Philippines. Everyone was rushing
out to see it despite the horror boom being long
gone, hoping to get frightened. Well, the only thing
this movie succeeded to do was scare people from
coming back to the cinema as the movie dropped an
astounding 70% the second weekend - and after having
seen the movie, I'm not surprised. Mag-Ingat Ka sa
Kulam is just terrible. Not only is it generic, flat
and completely pointless but it's also filled with
plot holes, bad actors and has such a basic storyline
that it's not even funny.
The movie revolves around Mira, a businesswoman who's
just been in a bad car accident, causing amnesia.
When she arrives back home, it becomes apparent to
her that she was a very bad person before the accident
and is determined to make things right, something
which turns out to be quite difficult as an evil
spirit has targeted her as its next victim. Who
could this mean spirit be? And why is it terrorizing
Mira? A question we never really get an answer to
since the movie contradicts itself in every little
moronic twist we get. Yes, we all know that twists
are hot in horror movies right now but should the
main story have to suffer just because the studio
wanted a stupid twist in there? Apparently so, but
who cares, it's not like anyone spent a lot of time
on this script anyway, this is the kind of script
that you can buy from the hobo down the street that
wants to become a scriptwriter.
Speaking of people who shouldn't be in movies, the
cast is just terrible. Even for Pinoy standards.
But you know, any movie with Judy Ann Santos is a
guaranteed hit for some reason, just look at last
years Ouija which wasn't exactly a masterpiece
either. When it comes to Pinoy horror flicks, I don't
think that you need to really read a review to know
what to expect, they're all pretty much the same
and this is why I've skipped many of the more recent
ones (such as Hide & Seek and Altar). If you enjoy
Pinoy horror productions, you're very likely to
enjoy this as well but I just thought that it was
moronic, generic and flat out boring.

No.

Awful. Terrible soundtrack.

Read the bottom lines for all my reviews of Pinoy
horror films and you have my summary for Kulam. This
movie was ridiculously bad, even by Pinoy standards.
It doesn't have a single original bone in it and
the twists insult the audience rather than surprise
them - come on people, we're not that stupid.
