After two grizzly murders have occurred in a house,
Ken and his family are forced to invite their
relatives who lived in the very same house. Ken's
family is a bit sceptical about bringing two
strangers into the house but they have no other
choice but to accept the situation. After a while
Ken's wheelchair bound brother discovers that
there's something wrong with the old lady and
her grand daughter... something very wrong!

A Living Hell is yet another terrifyingly original
horror movie from Japan. This story is a bit more
disturbing than the rest though. It uses elements
from Battle Royale but makes us feel a lot more
disgusted than we ever felt during Battle Royale.
The trailer for the movie leaves a lot to the
imagination and really doesn't bring a lot of
interest in watching the entire movie so it took
a while before I decided to finally watch this
sick little puppy. Though, I'm glad that I did.

The directing is rather clever, using many smart
blackouts and creepy angles. The script does feel
as if it could use some polishing though. The
movie builds up with this creepy, uncomfortable
feeling but the climax doesn't live up to the rest
of the movie. Unfortunately. The climax feels
more humorous and ludicrous than creepy or
disturbing as I would have wanted it to be. The
acting is rather good though, however, the
exaggerated face expressions did not help the
movie in becoming more believable.

I don't feel that it fully deserves a rating of
four due to the rather abysmal climax but
fortunately it took a turn for the better in
the last five minutes of the movie and I do think
that this is one hell of a movie. Whoever came
up with this story sure has a wicked mind, that's
for sure. This movie is just plain mean. If you
want to sit and feel uncomfortable for an hour
and a half, this is without a doubt your movie.

We get the hint of brutal gore and violence but
we really don't get to see a lot. A girl's head
with a machete in the head and a dog with its
neck ripped open is what we get here really. It
almost seemed cut here and there but when I
checked it said it was supposed to be the full
uncut version so I guess I was wrong.

The score works fine to set the atmosphere but
there were times that it just felt so off. Especially
in the climax. But all in all, it set the perfect
atmosphere so I'm satisfied.

Disturbing horror movie which lives up to its good
hype that it has gotten. I would definitely recommend
this to anyone who's in for a very weird movie. Because
this sure is one weird freaky movie. I do however feel
that I might have liked it even better if the sound on
the DVD wasn't just DD2.0.
