Rosa is an 18-year old girl from the Philippines.
Her brother is very sick so she goes to Singapore
to work as a maid. She arrives just in time for
the Chinese ghost month and it doesn't take long
before Rosa too starts seeing ghosts. But it seems
as if the ghosts want to tell her something, what
could they want?

From the company that brought us the awesome Thai
horror flick "The Eye" comes a new take on the
same story - or so it seems anyway. The Maid is
pretty much the exact same movie as The Eye only
that they main character is a Philippine maid. It
even has a bunch of the same scares, though I have
to confess that I did jump more times in The Maid
than I did in The Eye. The point is, after two
sequels and a lousy Indian remake, I'm sick of
the concept. The original is absolutely brilliant
but it's starting to get repetitive.
I'm not sure but I do believe that this is the
first horror movie that I've seen from Singapore
and even if it might be unoriginal as hell, The
Maid still has many things going for it. The cheap
scares manage to keep you entertained and the
relatively predictable plot leaves you feeling
smarter than you might actually be since you've
figured out the twists almost an entire hour before
they actually happen.
Asian horror is getting less and less impressive
and to me it seems as if Thailand is the only
country left in Asia which is thinking original
with movies like Scared and Art Of The Devil 2
coming out on DVD shortly. Five years ago I would
probably have loved The Maid but I've just seen
this concept so many times now that I'm sick of
it. If you haven't seen any of the sequels for
The Eye, you might find this more giving than I
did though but in the end, The Maid was just a
mildly entertaining and very predictable ghost flick.

None.

The score is pretty basic, nothing special at all.

I can't say that I'm disappointed because I had
no expectations at all heading into this movie.
The Maid might be an entertaining ghost flick but
I think most of us Asian horror fans have had
enough of this concept. It was cool for a while
but it has to end some time.
