A giant mammoth is brought to life by the help of
aliens and quickly goes on a killing rampage. It's
now up to Frank, who has studied the Mammoth for
five years, his daughter and a team of experts to
save the day. But here's the twist - unless they
manage to kill this creature within ten hours,
their entire town will be destroyed by the government.

"God has forsaken us, Frank. Today we pray to
Nike, run!". This is just the kind of pathetic
one-liners that I've come to expect from the
Sci-Fi channel's horror comedies. Mammoth is once
again a step in the right direction for the Sci-Fi
channel and at least they realized that a horror
movie about a killer Mammoth (which is really a
vegetarian) couldn't be taken seriously. Unfortunately,
the jokes are pathetic and I didn't get so much as
a giggle out of this film, and furthermore, the
fact that aliens brought the Mammoth back to life
was just too far-fetched for my taste. I mean,
sure, they weren't serious but it was just such
a bad excuse for the Mammoth being brought back
to life. They could have done something more clever
than that. Hell, even genetic manipulation would
have been a better explanation but I guess they've
overused that one.

As you can probably hear, I wasn't too fond with
the plot. The mammoth really wasn't the central
character in the movie, it felt more like the
aliens were the ones that they were battling which
makes sense considering that it is in fact the
Sci-Fi channel. I don't really know why they keep
making creature features actually as I think that
most of them are anything but Sci-Fi. The directing
is pretty average, as is the cinematography. The
acting was a mixed bag with some really decent
actors and some that simply didn't know what the
hell they were doing.

I could go on and on about this movie but seeing as
how I've reviewed so many Sci-Fi channel productions
before, I feel like I would just be repeating myself
and I know how much you guys hate it when I ramble
so I'm just going to leave it at that. Sure, they
thought outside of their box but this was much
more forgettable than it should have been. I for
one had pretty high hopes for this movie since
I always think that it's nice when they bring new
animals into the creature feature mix but this one
just didn't do it for me. Don't bother.

Not a lot of gore since it's more of a comedy than
a horror movie. We get a decapitation, a hand
chopped off and an impalement.

Nothing special, felt pretty recycled as expected.

Some people love these kind of movies but I just
don't see the charm in them. This was simply
too dull and too silly for my taste. I did not
appreciate the humour in it and bringing aliens
into the mix just made things worse. I'd advice
you to stay away from this.
