Roger is
going to see his sister Brooke for Christmas.
He has brought his fiancé with him and is looking
forward to seeing his sister again. Charles, an old
friend of Brooke's is also coming and he's brought
Roger's ex-girlfriend with him. As if this wasn't
catastrophic enough, they're greeted by Marcus,
Brooke's boyfriend, who says that Brooke will be
home shortly. What only Marcus knows however, is that
Brooke is bleeding to death in her own bath-tub.

First of all let me just say that Marcus is more of
a thriller than a horror movie so if you don't like
thrillers, you might as well stop reading here. The
movie opens up with a woman lying in a bath-tub,
telling a man about her life. Her brother and a friend
of hers is coming over for dinner tonight so the
man bashes her head into the wall, leaving her
unconscious. This man turns out to be Marcus. As
soon as the guests arrive, so does the drama.
This movie really focuses on making us hate all of
the characters, which is really unusual but actually
works. In the end we're rooting more for Marcus than
for anybody else and this really was interesting,
I mean, is it a good or a bad thing when you're
rooting for the psychopath? As for the acting, it's
surprisingly good and even though these actors got
some difficult characters to play, I think that
they all nailed it more or less. Ross Kurt, playing
Marcus, was the only one who occasionally felt a
bit stiff. His dialogues just felt a bit too forced.
I don't think that Marcus necessarily lived up to
its potential though. The movie has some very slow
parts which were pretty tough to get through and
when the movie finally reaches its climax, it feels
incredibly rushed. Everything just happened too fast
and we didn't get a chance to digest it before the
movie was over. If they had cut some of the slower
parts away and extended the climax a bit, that
probably would have helped the movie a whole lot.
Bob Hardison and Rich Robinson have done amazing job
directing this movie though and if you enjoy family
drama thrillers, you will probably find this quite
pleasing. Some rookie mistakes here and there were
easy to overcome and even though the ending felt a
bit rushed, I really liked it. I can't wait to see
what these guys come up with in the future.

We get a throat ripped open and some blood splatter.

I loved the theme melody and the Christmas music also
worked really well. A+ in the soundtrack department.

Marcus is definitely not a flawless movie. It's got
some serious pacing problems and the ending felt
incredibly rushed. If you have a good attention span
however, I think that you will be able to enjoy
Marcus for what it is - a family drama thriller.
