Marino has always loved her Marronnier doll, it cheers her up
when she's sad and makes her smile when she's happy. What she
doesn't know about her doll is that it's made from an actual
human being. Marino soon becomes the marrionner's assistants
new victim and now she can only fight for her life in order
to save herself from becoming a marronnier doll.

Gosh, how do I begin describing in words what I just saw.
Marronnier is a new horror film from the producer of the strange
but yet brilliant movie Uzumaki and after having seen what
feels like dozens of bad horror movies lately I was really
looking forward to seeing a new great Japanese horror flick.
Tragically, this was not what I was delivered. Marronnier is
a strange flick, just like Uzumaki, I'll give it that, but
at least it was possible to understand what was going on in
Uzumaki while as in Marronnier I had absolutely no clue for
most of the time. Why? Mostly because the movie is terribly
put together and there is no red line what so ever to follow.

The movie, which looks like it was shot with a cheap betacam,
has tendencies to look like a cheap Japanese commercial at
numerous times. Since it's so poorly edited it almost feels
as if you're watching a "funniest Japanese commercials" show,
only without any products. The acting is beyond abysmal and
you can't help but to wonder if they just asked people in
the streets if they wanted to be in a horror flick. And worst
of all, the movie is so dull that it would put a hyperactive
psychopath to sleep. After 10 minutes you feel like fast
forwarding through the rest of the movie so you could imagine
the look on my face when I checked the back of the cover and
found out that the movie was 80 minutes long.

When a movie like Marronnier is released you start wondering
just how desperate the US film market is to acquire new Jap
horror flicks for distribution. Sure, they have become very
popular recently but if companies start releasing garbage like
this the trend will die just as quickly as it came. This
movie was a huge let down and I'm beginning to get more and
more sceptical to whether I am going to see another good
horror flick this year. Last year was filled with great stuff
but this year only about 10% of all horror movies have been
decent or good. This movie was hardly even viewable.

We get a couple of head dismemberments, a lot of blood
coughing and a severed hand. Nothing really interesting.

This was the absolute worst part of the movie. Not only was
the soundtrack incredibly cheap and cheesy, it was also so
badly mixed together that I felt like crying. There were
even moments when the music would just go silent without
even fading out for no apparent reason, as if there was a
flaw in the disc, however it was obvious that it was actually
meant to be this way.

What a disappointment! A doll horror movie? I don't think
so. The dolls were never even close to frightening, the
movie was worthless and the red line did not exist at all.
I'm telling you, there is no point in checking this film
out as all it will leave you with is a slight feeling of
brain damage.
