Several
years ago, a slasher movie production was
shut down when the director got killed. Now, a
couple of film students have decided to finish
this movie and return to the original film set.
Unfortunately for them, someone doesn't want this
movie to get finished and will do whatever it
takes to stop them.

Does the plot sound familiar? Well it should! Mask
Horrified is almost identical to the Aussie slasher
flick "Cut". When I say identical you probably
wonder how I mean. Well, the plot is almost
exactly the same, a couple of students decide to
finish a "cursed" slasher film and cast a big
star in the starring role who acts bitchy. When
they watch the movie together, the friends pull
a prank on the director and play dead, and so on.
Hell, even the mask is pretty much the same.
Either way, I tried to overlook the fact that
this was a complete "Cut" rip-off (which was only
an average slasher film in the first place) and
focus on the good things. Unfortunately, that
didn't leave me with much to focus on. The movie
looks incredibly low-budget, the acting is
absolutely dreadful and don't even get me started
on the sound-effects. If you thought that the
sound-effects in "Camp Blood" were bad, just wait
until you hear the ones in here.
Considering how successful recent Thai gore flicks
have been, I was surprised to see just how dry
this movie was. Sure, there's some blood splatter
but there's no real gore in this movie which I was
really disappointed with since the cover makes
this look very bloody.
Overall, I can't say that Mask Horrified is a
complete waste of time. It's a bit too slow-paced
and low-budget for my taste but I know that
there are people out there who absolutely loved
the Aussie slasher "Cut" so this might be
interesting for them. However, if you only found
"Cut" to be average at best, you should not see
this movie as it doesn't have a lot of things
going for it.

We get a thumb cut off in the opening scene but
sadly, that's about as gory as this movie gets.

It just doesn't get worse than this, it just
doesn't. This was without a doubt the worst score
I've ever heard in a horror movie before. And as
if that wasn't enough, the sound effects are so
bad that you find yourself stroking the mute button
several times throughout the movie.

Mask Horrified is a complete "Cut" rip-off and
should only be seen by fans of that movie. If
you didn't like Cut, I can guarantee that you
won't like this either. Such a shame that a movie
with a cover that cool had to be as bad as this,
but I guess that's how it is these days.
