A rare and
extremely deadly snake has just managed to
escape from its jar and is growing extremely quick.
It doesn't take long before the snake is so big that
it can eat an entire person in one bite. Now it's up
to Les and his ex-girlfriend to stop the snake before
it attacks the county faire. But will they succeed in
doing so before it's too late?

I don't know how the Sci-Fi channel can afford to make
several creature features with stellar budgets every
year, are the ratings for these poorly animated
creature features really that high? Either way, they're
obviously making quite good money over there as
Megasnake features some of the best computer graphics
the Sci-Fi channel has ever provided us with. And not
only that, but Megasnake, no matter how cheesy it may
sound, is surprisingly entertaining. In fact, I'm going
to have to say that it's possibly the best Sci-Fi
channel original ever.
That doesn't really tell you much though, does it? Well
let me break it down for you. The movie takes place in
a small hillbilly town filled with rednecks (Razortooth
flashback) and snake wranglers. One particularly
dim-witted snake wrangler, Duff, decides to steal an
extremely rare, but very dangerous snake from an old
Indian so that he can add it to his collection. His
brother, Les, is not much of a snake-fan himself but
even he's kind of intrigued about the rare snake. That
is until it escapes and starts to grow. Not just an
inch a year, but over several feet by the hour. It soon
starts wreaking havoc in the small community, and guess
what? The county fair is coming up.
Megasnake may not entirely deliver what it promises.
The promotional poster for the movie shows a gigantic
snake in the big city, wrecking skyscrapers and
whatnot. It never really grows big enough to wreck
a skyscraper, nor do we ever see anything higher than
a two-story house, but when this snake attacks the
county fair, you're definitely in for a fun ride.
*Minor spoiler ahead* When that snake decapitated
every single person in a carousel, I was exstatic.
That scene has got to be one of the best death scenes
ever in a creature feature, it was genius.
*End of spoiler* The snake doesn't look like you'd
expect it to either, it actually looks somewhat real.
Seriously, I'm not kidding around here, the snake
looks on par with the snakes from Anacondas which had
a much higher budget. I'm sure that this movie will
be able to find theatrical distribution in several
countries around the world. It's a fun and exciting
creature feature and I really enjoyed it a whole lot.
Sure, not enough to give it 4/5, but as a cheesy
creature feature, it's surprisingly good.

Big piles of gore, a half-eaten goat, gory wounds,
decapitated bodies and a whole lot more.

I hated the hillbilly music and the harmonica wasn't
helping any - again, Razortooth flashback.

I never thought I'd say this but Megasnake was one hell
of a good time and the best creature feature I've seen
in a long time. If you can't enjoy this movie for what
it is, I feel extremely sorry for you. Don't take it
seriously, take it for what it is and enjoy the ride.
