Nancy runs away from home after her stepfather
tries to rape her. She hitch-hikes with two nice
boys who are headed for Florida and they get
along really well right from the start. However,
Nancy will soon regret her decision to run away
from home as a satanic family kidnaps her in order
to sacrifice her to the devil.

Midnight is a wannabe slasher from the early 80s
but looks like it was made back in the 70s, not
just due to the poor condition of the film but
also due to the fact that this is a very cheap
Texas Chain Saw Massacre clone. I had read a couple
of mixed reviews for this slasher flick and even
though my senses told me to stay away from this
movie, Lions Gate are great at making kick-ass DVD
sleeves which will make you want to see all of
their crappy DTV horror movies. Unfortunately,
I was also dragged into this mess.
The movie revolves around 17-year old Nancy who
has ran away from home and at first this acts
like a backwoods slasher flick with a big fat
hillbilly killer but once Nancy gets kidnapped,
the body count quickly slows down and we are
left with a very dull and unoriginal TCM rip-off
about a satanic family who sacrifice young girls
to Satan. Not only is the story abysmal but the
acting is also beyond horrible. There's a scene
in the beginning of the movie where a girl is
caught with her foot in a bear trap and that girl
has got to be the worst child actress I've ever
seen. Still, the acting in the rest of the movie
wasn't that much better.
If you ask me, most backwoods slashers from the
early 80s were pretty bad and you really have to
look hard to find yourself an entertaining backwoods
slasher flick. Midnight is not one of the good
ones. Even though it shows a certain potential
in the beginning, the last half of the movie feels
rushed and poorly edited, not to mention the
awful story that we're put through. Some people
might like to call this a forgotten gem, but I
say, let this movie be forgotten, don't encourage
Lions Gate to release the sequel as well.

We get a beheading and some throat slashings,
nothing out of the ordinary.

The 70s pop works pretty well for the movie and
I actually thought the soundtrack was one of the
few things that this movie had going for it.

This really was a terrible backwoods slasher flick
which tries to copy Texas Chain Saw Massacre way
too hard. Do yourself a favour and skip this cheesy
horror movie, it's not even a proper slasher, it
just acts like one during the first 45 minutes.
