An aspiring photographer is trying to capture
the essence of the real New York City when he
stumbles onto a serial killer who kills victims
in the almost deserted late-night subway rides.
As his obsession with the mysterious serial
killer increases, he's soon puts his, and his
loved ones, lives at stake.

Probably the most talked-about horror flick of
the year, Midnight Meat Train got a lot of
attention when Lions Gate decided to dump it in
one-dollar theatres. Since I had yet to see the
movie, I figured that the movie was probably
dumped for a reason. What that reason is I have
yet to figure out because Midnight Meat Train
is the best theatrical horror movie of the year.
Not only is it an extremely well-crafted horror
flick but Ryuhei Kitamura has turned this into
a visual masterpiece. I haven't seen such
brilliant directing in the horror industry in
several years. What an outstanding achievement.

The story isn't anything groundbreaking to be
honest with you, but it's actually the simplicity
of it that makes it so intriguing. A photographer
has become obsessed with a subway serial killer
and is following his every footstep. There's not
much more to it than that (it's based on a short
story by Clive Barker so what can you expect?).
This really could have been an absolute atrocity
had it not been done with such intelligence.
See Midnight Meat Train is a non-stop thrill-ride
filled with action scenes that are out of this
world, gore scenes that are jaw-dropping and
chase scenes that are simply to die for. As a
horror fan you really couldn't ask for much more.

Like I said before, Ryuhei Kitamura really takes
it to the next level with his brilliant directorial
skills and you can tell that a lot of effort
and love was put into this movie. Not only that
but the cast also feels extremely devoted and
deliver all-around top-notch performances. I do
have one issue with this flick though, and that's
the ending. The final 10 minutes were a bit too
cheesy and felt unnecessary - and I can imagine
that these final few frames won't impress the
mainstream movie goers. The horror crowd will
most likely eat it up though. And why shouldn't
we? Midnight Meat Train is the best horror flick
to come out of Hollywood in years and I truly
hope that it gets a cult following on DVD.

In a time when 95% of all horror movies are pure
rubbish, it's nice to have films like Midnight
Meat Train to give us horror fans a spark of
hope. This is certainly a movie that you need
to have in your collection as I can guarantee
that it's a movie that you will want to watch
more than just once. Midnight Meat Train is an
outstanding horror flick and deserves all of the
credit that it's received everywhere. Too bad
Lions Gate screwed this one up.

Not going to spoil this for you but I will reveal
that it is insanely gory.

I was too caught up in all the excitement to
even reflect on the soundtrack.

The best horror flick to come out of Hollywood
in years. Midnight Meat Train is a fast-paced
(and that's an understatement), action-packed,
extremely entertaining and simply brilliant
horror movie that is NOT TO BE MISSED! Check this
one out as soon as you get the chance.
