Loosely based on the Greek mythology about a
man-eating monster-bull living in a big underground
maze, this movie follows a bunch of people who
have been sent down into the maze to be sacrificed
to the minotaur. Is there any way to kill the
beast or are they all doomed?

Having been to the Greek island Crete (the island
where this myth took place) myself, I was very
enthusiastic about this movie since I know all
about the myth. Unfortunately, the movie is very
loosely based on the myth and there were many
errors to be found. You could see that the people
behind this movie didn't know a lot about Greece.
However, that didn't make it a bad movie, instead,
I was actually positively surprised over just how
entertaining Minotaur turned out to be.

The beast is no longer half man and half bull,
instead it's a giant monster-bull which looks
incredible. The CGI effects are surprisingly
good and we actually get to see the monster in
action numerous times, which is quite unusual
for Sci-Fi channel productions. The story is well
crafted and it's obvious that this wouldn't have
been as entertaining as it was, had it been more
true to the myth.

I was also surprised to see that the entire movie
actually took place in ancient Greece rather than
having a group of tourists in present time
discover that the Minotaur is still alive. This
is the second time this week that the Sci-Fi
channel manages to take their movies to a whole
new level. The acting is better than expected and
the maze looks pretty good - even if it's nothing
like the maze described in Greek mythology.

Ultimately I will have to recommend this creature
feature as it's not very often that I actually
enjoy these kind of films. It's got a good pace,
some decent gore and quite a lot going for it so
check this one out as soon as it hits DVD.

There are numerous impalements in this movie but
that's about it. Pretty good effects though.

Nothing special here, once again they've managed
to recycle the score from many of their previous
creature features. Oh well.

Surprisingly entertaining creature feature which
might not be very true to the myth, but still
comes out as a good and well-crafted movie in the
end. If you enjoy huge monsters killing people,
you should definitely check this one out as it's
better than most creature features these days.
