A maniacal cop kidnaps young women and then tortures
them before he finally kills them and wraps their
faces up like mummies... Ehmm.. yeah, that's pretty
much the idea. Oh and it's inspired by true events.

The cover for Mummy Maniac clearly states that this is
from the director of "The Boogeyman", yep, that's right,
the incompetent director Ulli Lommel who we've all
learned to hate by now. In fact, if you haven't
noticed, I've refused to review anything made by him
after I watched the abysmal thriller "Zodiac Killer"
(I skimmed through The Tomb and Green River Killer and
both looked as atrocious). However, Mummy Maniac is
NOT by Ulli Lommel like the cover states, it's from
his protege, Max Nikoff, who's worked on several of
Ulli Lommel's latest serial killer movies as a producer.
And Ulli Lommel has taught this guy every little trick
that he knows of because if I hadn't actually read the
opening credits, I would have thought that this was made
by Ulli himself... and that's NOT a good thing.

Mummy Maniac has a pretty neat story and the artwork
is, as usual, just awesome. Don't be fooled though,
Mummy Maniac is not about a maniacal mummy killing
people at random, it's about a psychotic cop who kidnaps
and kills young women and then wrap their heads up in
band-aid. The thing is, the story doesn't go anywhere
beyond that. The movie starts out with some random
girl who has just been captured by the crazy cop and
pleads for her life while offering him expensive
shoes in exchange for her freedom. He doesn't buy it
and starts spanking her hand gently. She screams out
in agony before he finally strangles her and wraps
her face up in band-aid. This scene is then repeated
six or seven times with different women before the
movie finally ends without a real ending.

There is very little change in the dialogues from each
woman as well. The killer asks for their names, spanks
their hands, the girls offer him various stuff like
shoes and singing and dancing lessons so that he'll
let them go and then he finally kills them in some
ungory manor before he wraps up their faces like
mummies for whatever reason. The serial killer who
is, as far as I know, still at large probably wouldn't
be very excited to see how they portrayed his room
though. See, the killer in Mummy Maniac takes the
women to an abandoned locker-room with stumps of
band-aid hanging around just about everywhere. Gee,
talk about taking the concept too far, ey?

Then we have the direction which is, as I said before,
Ulli Lommel standards. Max Nikoff has learned from the
worst so naturally we get several bizarre close-ups,
annoying flashes from the mind of the killer, poor
camera angles and the whole cheap homemade video-look
is there as usual. The acting is also painfully bad.
So if you want to see an Ulli Lommel original, Mummy
Maniac is not far away. It's a complete and utter
bore with a ridiculously thin story-line and some of
the worst directing ever. Avoid.

A slit throat is all we get.

Horrible, sounded borrowed from Ulli Lommel's movies.

Mummy Maniac is indeed a true Lommel film even if his
name didn't appear in the end credits. It's an
extremely incompetent horror flick (*shrugs*, I don't
think that this deserves to be called a horror flick)
with a non-existent storyline and some of the worst
directing ever. Don't even bother looking at the back
of the cover, it's not nearly as good as it looks.
